A White Winter
Diego
Winter Storm Diego
While not the Blizzard of ’93,
Winter Storm Diego did over-achieve
Two feet on our mountain tops
Even the dude from The Weather Channel
showed up
the day of the parade
just hours before Diego sat down
piling up snow on
mountains and flatlands
Cloggers, marching bands, and beauty queens
Knew where to stop and pose
get their minute of fame
On weather channel tv with Jim Santore
So, Diego came
Snow piled two feet deep
Walmart shut down
Facebook lit up
And, while not the Blizzard of ’93,
Diego did over-achieve
Orchids blooming
My orchid blooming
But so does my Orchid
Sitting in the windowsill above my kitchen sink
Getting ready to pop
Blooming again
This time number three
Any day now, those delicate, white blooms
Will burst into glory
Gracing my space
Table Tree
Table top tinsel
No shoveling
No praying the power stays on
Just lovely to look at
Enjoy
Appreciate
As I appreciate my
White fiber optic tree
Lights built in
Blinking tiny sprays of sprite magic
Like my fireflies
I see on Appalachian summer nights
Wherever I look
Snow-covered mountains
Orchids busting to bloom
Silvery white tabletop tree
Reminding me
‘Tis the season
One petal at a time
Twinkling baubles
To appreciate
This moment will pass
Dark debilitating darkness
Mornings late to rise
Early evenings every night
Enjoy winter
Find warmth where you may
Until the balmy nights of summer return
Enjoy fiber optic trees
Orchids bulging with blooms
Snow two feet deep
