Children's Poetry: A World of Childlike Dreams

Updated on June 7, 2013

Sealed in a vault,

Within my mind,

Resides a place,

Lost in time.

A place of mystical fantasy,

Of childlike dreams,

If exposed to the world,

It would rip at the seams.

This world I protect,

For it belongs not to me,

It belongs to my children.

For when they are in need.

Tea parties with the princess,

Playing knights of the round.

Celebrating first birthdays,

Or first touch downs.

This world is precious.

A treasure to behold,

Passed to each generation

To new

From old.

Thanks Vinaya, that's a great compliment coming from you. I see you stopped writing for that other site. They will never get a clue.

Thanks Chris, I made a small typo in my original comment so I had to do it over.

I'm experimenting with new themes. I've found love so the part of me that writes romatic poetry is quite satisfied. My inner struggles are for my kids, and life now.

I'm glad you liked it. I wanted to capture the magic that we all have inside of us.

I was just talking about this with a friend - the importance of not only keeping the inner child alive, but going back to it whenever we notice that we're trying too hard to discern life's misunderstandings. Beautiful poem! Thanks for sharing.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks these things.
