A day in the life of Death

Updated on May 30, 2014

A day in the life of Death Poem

I rise to find the body count high

Again it's like they don't realize its just I

I take my ferry ride through river styx

Ready to take those healthy or sick

Those who have sinned and committed wrong

those who didn't even they were dead at all

It's funny how quickly they start to scream

All just from seeing me

"I'm doing my job" I want to say

Trust me it's not great pay

I guess you should have jumped out of the way

of that bus flying down the highway

Those who find themselves here, there's a reason

Obviously you did wrong this season

Other wise you'd be up in the clouds

Instead your hear with lava in mounds

Sorry about your situation

Just to let you know this is no vacation

Now get on the boat I've got plenty of trips to make

oh for heaven sake

Oops I mean hell

oh well forgive my mistake

Stop crying with tears so fake

This place really isn't that bad

Hell you should all be glad

You arrived here because you did so much wrong

While down here develop a song

Amuse the dark lord and maybe you can cut a deal

annoy him and he may hurt you can cause you to squeal

I'm just giving advice of what I've seen in the past

Honestly the scared looks on your face never last

You'll be use to this place soon enough

It's really not that rough

Hey I've dealt with It for Billions of years

It's been so long I forgot how I got here

Now please let me do my job

come now come along

Hurry my job never ends

The rest of hell depends

On me taking you all across the river

I have so many souls to deliver

Thank you very much Ms. Bowers, happy you could appreciate the background of the character and enjoy the poem.

Haha! Loved it. Very much inspired by Charon and Greek mythology, I think. Or perhaps Thanatos, who is actually death. Of course, I'm not the author, so I can't say for sure, but that's what your poem reminded me of. That was great.

Nicely done! It makes me think of Emily Dickinson's poem, " Because I Could Not Stop For Death"

      Nice imagery, too!

No I haven't, though from the review I read I love movies like that but sometimes the subtitles kill it for me sometimes not. Really depends on the pace of the movie I'll definitely have to give it a watch.

Guess we both have an affinity for the afterlife. I wrote my thesis on this topic and like the tone of your poem; but Death from Greek myths didn't deliver souls to Hell. The Greek afterlife space was for both good and bad. There was no Heaven or Hell. But the Jewish and Islamic Angel of Death delivers souls for judgment between such different spaces. The Grim Reaper is one of the most interesting characters in afterlife films and literature. Have you ever seen the silent Swedish film "The Phantom Carriage"? It's excellent!

Great Idea jodah a song may be a great add especially one of that nature.

Eric I'm loving every ones little poem add ons

Sold your soul yes you did

however, this is a different bid

There's nothing here for me to take

      is this a mistake

Time for the master of this realm to speak

don't fear me however my master is far from weak

Great poem, haunting images. What would really make this hub would be to add a video of the song "Don't Pay the Ferryman" by Chris de Berg. Well done though.

      I like it!

So much to do so little time

So many souls that have committed crime

I find every day is wasted

The sad reality I'm faced with

day turn to night and night to day

always working on the ferry no time to play

      Ouch! The sting of death

      Please don't come calling today

I've got chores to do, so just go away

Wait til i'm a hundred and ten

Then you may return but not til then.

      Hee..Good one joe
