A Cold December Day
Cold December Day
a crisp
nostril tingling
bright
white
snow glistening
shimmering
the afternoon sun
burning across
another cold day.
Adam and me
walk
run
frolic
through the forest
a snowshoe rabbit
effortlessly
bounds away
and out of sight.
we hear
the singing
sounds of snowmobiles
we watch
they disappear
as quickly
as the rabbit.
overhead sounds
a small aircraft
excites Adam
as he thinks
of another place
another friend
he wants to run
following after its sound.
so we run
he has a stick
i try to tackle him
he's almost laughing
i see it in his eyes
he gets away
running in circles
the snow spurting upward
a snowy dust cloud.
i'm as happy as he is
i'm laughing
his enjoyment
engulfing the both of us
as i chase him
back to the house.
a warm fire awaits
inside this familiar shell
and we settle in
and rest
on this cold December day.
