ANOTHER COCKTAIL PARTY....by b. Malin
BUT A FAMOUS ONE...
I've often wondered what it would be like to be at a "Cocktail Party" with some very Famous People...So have some Liquid Refreshments, and come along with me as we "Mingle" with them, and hear what THEY might have said...From their Famous Quotes.
Lillian Carter (mother of Jimmy Carter & Billie) talking to Eleanor Roosevelt. "Sometimes, when I look at my children, I say to myself, Lillian, you should have remained a Virgin!
Eleanor Roosevelt replying back, "I had a Rose named after me and I was very Flattered...But I was not pleased to read the description in the Catalogue..."No good in a bed, but fine against a wall".
Mark Twain walks over to join in the conversation..."Last week, I stated this woman was the Ugliest woman I had ever seen. I have since been visited by her sister, and now wish to withdraw that statement". He then walks over to chat with George Burns and Victor Borge. and says to them..."Be careful about reading Health Books...You may die of a Misprint".
Socrates sees the three gentlemen and says, "By all means, Marry, If you get a Good Wife, you'll be Happy...if you get a Bad one, you'll become a Philosopher". They think maybe he's had a bit too much to drink. He leaves them and goes over to see Groucho Marx, who's standing and talking to W. C. Fields.
Groucho says, "I was married by a Judge...I should have asked for a Jury"! W.C. Fields replies, "I never drink Water, because of the Disgusting things that Fish do in it"! At this point Will Rogers comes over to say a few words..."We could certainly slow the aging process down if it had to work it's way through Congress". They all Laugh.
Helen Keller arrives and goes over to talk to James Thurber, and says, "Keep your face to the Sunshine and you cannot see the shadow". James smiles as he replies, "It is better to ask some of the questions than to know all the Answers". Helen wonders if he's directing his quote to her. Nehru, spots the two and walks over and says, "What we really are, matters more than what other people think of Us". Not to be out quoted, Rodin joins the group saying, "Nothing is a waste of Time, if you use the Experience Wisely"...They all nod in agreement.
There is a hush as Gandhi arrives wondering what words of Wisdom he will spout...He says, "There is more to Life than increasing it's speed". All nod once again in agreement. As Will Rogers raises his glass and say's "I never met a man I didn't like". As they all drink to that quote. The evening is drawing to a close when once again Will raises his glass and says, "There are Three kinds of men, The ones that learn by reading...The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves". After that Famous Quote, the party broke up.
