Accountability – 26th Word in the “good Words" Project - Who Do We Hold Accountable and to Who?

Updated on June 14, 2020

Accountability the 26th word in the "Good Words" Project, created by Jo 'Grace' Goldsmith, by giving us words to live by in hopes to inspire fellow Hubbers, to become the best writers we can be.

When Jo 'Grace' told me about the project, I gave my WORD that I would write a poem for each word she gave us.

We sometimes forget that we need to hold our leaders accountable

By © Shyron Shenko 8/18/14

How do we hold our leaders accountable?

Where is the accountability

For our elected representatives

Our leaders if you will

When we’re the ones who elected them

And we sent them to Capitol Hill

But holding ourselves accountable

Is such a bitter pill

Because we swallowed every lie

In their campaign spiel

To hold them accountable

We must vote them out

If they are not living up to their deal

Where is the accountability for Malaysia Airlines flight MH17?

Can Putin be held accountable?

For the evil that was done

When Malaysia Airlines flight MH17

Was shot out of the sky

And 298 passengers and crew would die

Where is the accountability

For what happened on that fatal day

Do we have the right to judge?

How can we make them pay?

Most believe that Putin is to blame

Or is he just insane

Or both?

Where is the accountability for those who shot down the plane?

Where is the accountability

For the ghouls who stripped the victims

Of all they thought of value

Or for their cruel evil deeds

For the desecration of the bodies that they seized

Will they not be accountable?

Because they do not believe

Will God hold them accountable?

And let the devil have them

Satan is the one they pleased

The lack of accountability is something that only helps to fuel the insanity.

Who must we hold accountable

For what is said and done

Why don’t we look inside ourselves?

If holding someone accountable we must

If Accountability is OUR judgment

Who are we to say?

God will not hold us accountable

Come the accountability day

Where is the accountability for our President who would rather go and play movie star and shake hands to raise money when we have so much going on (some asked)

Hold the President accountable

For playing a game of pool?

I know it was at the end of a stressful day

But this really isn't cool

We don't mean to be unkind

But, our President

Must find some other way to unwind

Does he not have the right to play?

He only has the right to rule

Does he not have the right to relax

And shoot a game of pool?

Obama asked the Congress for $3.7B to help kids crossing the border

President Obama asks the Congress

For $3.7 Billion dollars

To help the kids who have crossed the border

One Congressman retorted

If we are ever back in session

You will be out of order!

Where is the Accountability of our President to do more than sanction Putin?

The accountability of our president

To do more than sanction Putin

Could we hold our president accountable?

Because he does not advertise his every move

So the terrorist could do the shooting

Information is now worldwide information

Our news is no longer just U.S.A. News

If we hold our President accountable

And he broadcast his plans

That is news the terrorist can use

So they can get the upper hand

I hope that I will be forgiven

On that accountability day

When I hold someone else accountable

As the reason for what I had to say

I hope that I will be forgiven

On that accountability day

When I hold someone else accountable

As the reason for what I had to say

Ange Shearer

From my new dear friend Ange, her take on Accountability

Hmmmm a hard one

In the same sense

As responsibility

Comes the next phase

Which is accountability

You must have ownership

Which will make you responsible

That makes you accountable

Therefore liable

You have obligations

To take control

Of everything

In your life as a whole

For everything you do

You must have accountability

So nothing you have done

Can ever be a liability

Where is the Accountability of our President for shaking hand and raising monies

Must we hold our President accountable

For raising the money to pay

For the bill Bush signed into law

Now here is what is really rude

This is the same law our President obeyed

The same law for which he is being sued

The law that Bush signed! I wonder if he is the one who sent the other countries an invitation to send us their children for us to support and raise them?

There are getting to be fewer and fewer hubs that allow comments.

I think for people in certain positions or financial levels there is no accountability. They are above the law for all the insistence that no one is, and will never be held accountable for the illegal and sometimes horrific things they do. Trump comes to mind here, as well as Rafael Cruz and Josh Hawley.

Do hope is well with you and yours and that you are staying safe even if all around you are throwing any sense they may have to the wind. Blessings, dear friend . . .

Trump's impeachment trial is to start next week. Republicans just want to forget the whole thing and cancel the trial. You have to know Trump won't be found guilty.

NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW! That's what they keep saying, but they never explain the but. No one is above the law except Republicans, especially the leadership, but even Margery Taylor Greene seems to be getting away with everything. For sure Trump won't be found guilty. You can count on it.

There is no accountability for Republicans. Their supporters are leaving the Party like flies heading to a feed lot, but still there are too many of them in Congress for them to stop their obstructionism.

A lot of people say the GOP is destroyed -- but they don't seem to realize it.

At least the circus, for now at least, has quieted to a dull roar. No stupid Trump tweets and daily screwups times 4, and sometimes more.

Hope you get your vaccines soon if you haven't already. Keep up the recommendations of wearing a mask, social distancing, etc. Blessings to you and your Walters. Stay safe!

Will there ever be any accountability for the Republicans, especially McConnell, Graham, Trump, and other major players in this disaster they are conducting for the last 4 years?

I don't trust the hype or the polls since they were said to be even better last time when Hillary was running. Even though she got the most votes, she lost. Even though all indicators were that she would win, she lost. I have a bad feeling Putin will reinstall Trump since he's had many of his dreams come true as a result of Trump's first 4 years.

Wonder if Trump will be held accountable for waiting nearly 4 months before acting on the information that this Coronavirus was coming and would be the cause of hundreds of thousands of deaths in this country. Trump did nothing but dither despite continual pleading from some of his advisors, like Dr. Anthony Fauci, to start social distancing and travel bans. Trump's acting much sooner could have saved many lives, but he valued those lives far less than his money and the money of his 'friends.' If our Heavenly Father is the person He says He is, Trump will have a time of reckoning and any money he may have will not sway the judgment to his advantage,

But will Trump also be held accountable in this world? Will he pay a price for his failure to correctly value the human life that has been lost, and continues to be lost because of his love of money?

His refusal to provide medical equipment and PPE while lying that it is not needed and that there is more than enough of it -- will he pay a price for that or will people continue to support him and vote him into another term in office to finish off what he started?

Posting this to FB & AH.

Do not be lulled into thinking things are safer now. Take care for yout health, dear friend. Blessings . . .

To answer one of your questions, I think most people, so long as they don't have too much money, are held accountable for their words and deeds. For sure Trump is above the law and that has been proven again and again in the last 3 years. Trump is not held accountable for anything. That is probably due to so many evangelicals and well known TV preachers believing Trump is the Second Coming of Christ. Not because of all the money has. I don't think he has nearly as much as he says -- another one of his lies. Yes, you can listen to them (evangelicals and their preachers) tell it on YouTube if you like, don't take my word for it.

The reason Trump is above the law is not his money, it is the fact that he is a tool for the Republican Party and is helping them accomplish things they have wanted to do for a long time. Cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and public assistance programs like food stamps, etc. Yes, and SSI too. Nothing is safe unless it serves the wealthy, most members of our Congress among their ranks. Yes, and most of our Congress members got their wealth since they became members of Congress, and that is one of the things causing that nasty smell some of us can notice.

Hope all is well with you, dear friend. Posting this to AH & FB.

The treatment of immigrants on our Southern border is deplorable. Shame on the U.S. and every qualified voter whether or not they exercise that right. Shame on anyone who would support the way immigrants, and especially their children, are being treated at our border. Instead of cages we are told they are being kept in pens in the filthiest and most denigrating conditions. There is no excuse for this, and no excuse for every citizen not to speak out against it.

Those people who oppose this treatment of immigrants, but say nothing are complicit. Anyone who imagines that treating immigrants and their children as we are doing is Christian are sick minded. No one who condones or defends this treatment of immigrants and their children should be even vaguely surprised when they get to the Pearly Gates and are told, "Sorry, but I never knew you, (Matthew 7:21-23)."

Blessings and hugs dear friend, Shyron. Hope your days are looking a little bit better. Take care . . .

So far Trump has been allowed to be above the law, as have his children who are active in his administration. Some other people in his administration also enjoy freedom from our laws. Frankly, I think if anyone is going to jail on his account, then he should be the first to go with the longest sentence. His flunkies have clearly ended up where they are because of Trump, and likely because of who they are in the first place, which includes a huge dose of dishonesty and a huge lacking of integrity in each of them. Even so, they are largely where they are because of him. They might have, and probably would have all ended up just as corrupt as they are now even without Trump, but the fact is that they ARE in trouble because of Trump. I think he should share in their situations by going to jail along with them. They seem to have far shorter sentences than ordinary people receive for being convicted of far less serious crimes.

While our Founding Fathers envisioned a justice system that treated everyone equally, it seems to have run amuck and now we have 2 justice systems -- one for ordinary regular folks, and one for the obscenely wealthy. Guess who ends up institutionalized for years and years and who barely gets a tour of the prison as a punishment?

Trump is the main player right now, but in fact wealthy people in general are not held accountable in our justice system. That needs to change. Had Trump not become president he would still be ignoring the law in his business dealings just as he and his father before him, always have. He would not have been caught, but since being caught, has suffered no inconveniences worth mentioning. To truly make America great again, it will be necessary to return our justice system to its original condition where everyone is held to the same standards regardless of their bank account. Our system is too corrupt to ever return to that condition. Only a handful of the crooks who assisted Trump will pay a much reduced cost for all of their criminal acts. Not fair to those who are paying the price for all of them, and especially not fair to the American people. Trump, his 3 oldest children, and most of their accomplices, will never be held accountable for any laws they have broken, mark my words.

Posting to AH & FB. Hope you are well dear friend. Take care . . .

So far, no accountability for Trump and most of his associates. Only a handful of them are going to jail, and only 2 are there right now. Somehow don't believe any of the Trumps are going to be held accountable for anything. Still some 1500 children separated from their parents/families, and the judge ordered them reunited nearly a year ago. Is Trump being held in contempt for disobeying a judge's order? Nope.

So far Trump would seem to be above the law. "They" keep saying the president is not above the law, but in fact it seems he is. The Republicans who are in charge of every branch of government refuse to hold Trump accountable no matter how our country suffers and no matter how much our country loses position and respect in the world.

Democrats will take the House in January, but I will wait and see what changes that brings, if any, when it comes to reigning our current tyrant president in. Amazing the damage that can be done when a so-called leader is both ignorant as a rock and a tyrant.

Can you believe Trump ordered the use of tear gas on children? Not enough to take them from their parents and put them in cages to cry themselves into oblivion. And he kept no records of anything, so more than a thousand children remain separated from their parents several months after a federal judge ordered Trump to reunite them. He should be sitting in jail, being held in contempt of court if in fact he is not above the law. That is where most people would be if they dared to defy a court order.

Just yesterday I read that a total of 14,000 children are currently incarcerated for the sin of crossing the U.S. border, many by themselves with no parents or guardians. Nothing is being done to correct their sad situation.

I really believe the U.S. is going to be judged for the terrible things it has been doing of late, and when I say judged I don't mean by other countries, though they too will heap disapproval on the U.S. No, I mean by God, and the punishment could be terrible indeed.

Hope you are enjoying the warmer temps. We are to be down in the 20s again in just a couple of days from now. Blessings dear friend. Take care . . .

The answer to your title question is that people who don't have the 'right' connections, and especially poor people, are who society usually holds accountable. Important people, wealthy people, are all but never held accountable. Women are held accountable, even for things they are not responsible for, but men often receive a pass.

Look at Hillary and the horrible character assassination the Republicans perpetrated on her for things she never did, and then look at Trump, who is one of the most corrupt people in this world even before you consider his politics. Yet society in general loves Trump and all his corruption, and despises Hillary whose greatest sin in the eyes of society I'd wager, is being a woman. Will Trump ever be held accountable?

We are all paying the price of the inequality of women every day. Many women are worse chauvinists than men. Due to the gullibility and poor judgement by people who love to hate, we must all suffer the leadership of a man who who should never be in charge of anything.

      Blessings dear friend . . .

Since it coming up in the feed now, people will assume it is now. Interesting article. Yes, that was a lot of money and some children that are born in this country aren't being taken care of.

Sounds like Republicans in Congress exercised more responsibility than usual by not shutting the government down again as they threatened to do, and by not cutting funds to Planned Parenthood as Republicans promised to do. It was a mixed bag from the sound, passing some things that are useful and not passing some things that were needed.

Got down to 29 F. degrees this early morning. To do it again in the morning. Downright cold. Guess I'm more acclimated to this place than I thought.

No one has ever been held accountable for stealing 7 Trillion dollars from the tax payers in the Great Bank Heist of 2008. Hundreds of bankers received bonuses for causing what amounts to a depression for poor and working class people, and quite a few previously middle class people will never see that level of lifestyle again.

Funny how most people never even considered holding the bankers responsible. They want to go after the poor schmucks who was stolen from, the victims of the whole disaster, because some of them are getting $140 in food stamps every month, but the REAL money isn't even on anyone's radar.

I wonder how many people could collect $140 a month and for how long if we had that 7 Trillion dollars to work with? It's been 7 years and not one single person ever gripes about all that money stolen from people all over this country -- then there were the bankers in other countries who did the same.

I guess if you steal enough of something, it's just so vast no one can wrap their minds around it so that ordinary people just turn these thieves into heroes and pray their children will grow up to be just like them.

      Sharing this again.

Hope you are in a cool place. Take care . . .

call and/or write our Congressman, Senators and Legislators and let them know how we feel. If we do not at least let those who we elected know what we think about things, then we are going down that road of apathy. We all can do something.

It is very difficult to do something when my Congressman, Senators and Legislators only represent their own interest, even the one Senator that is democrat, is really a blue-dog.

Au fait, my dear friend, thank you for your up-votes, pinning and sharing.

You are right! If a person does not vote, they can't complain about what they get.

It is my understanding that the National Guardsmen that our Governor hired to watch the border are doing the job they were hired to do, WATCH the border. Not interfere with the border crossers and if fires upon are not to retaliate in any way. To me this is just a grandstand play on the Governor's part, to make it look as though our President is not doing his job, but they are criticizing for following the very law that bush signed before the President was sworn in.

These people are counting on the American civilian public, to go watch "Dancing With the Stars" or some other show instead of keep watch over our elected officials who are suppose to represent our interests instead of their own.

The outrage when Bush invaded Iraq. I think in hindsight, people would be against his getting even with the Iraq people, but to many believe his lies. He, mr. bush, is a master at lying!

I do not see a connection to the people crossing the border and the maimed/broken/sad and hurt soldiers coming home for bush's personal war.

Bush signed legislation to fund children crossing the border and to CUT funding for our soldiers in every way possible. Handicapped or not, and the congress is doing their level best to continue bush's quest to reduce the size of our government and make it smaller by eliminating our Military, which is a government entity. Also our USPS is a government entity which they want to shut down.

It is our responsibility to try to understand the workings of our government and to VOTE responsible.

Kevin, thank you for the compliment, up votes, sharing and pinning, I really appreciate you.

Once I too, was not much into politics and never wanted to get into war, then I started doing some research during the first gulf war. Then my stand on politics was solidified when I read the following, many years later from David Podvin's 8/10/2003 -- The Media Cover-up of the Gore Victory

This man said in one paragraph why I am researching politics:

Said "We are looking forward to further erosion of our civil liberties, endless war, and depression,

unless the Republicans are soundly defeated. They can only be soundly defeated if we have election reform (among other things). We can only have reform if we fully understand and acknowledge what happened in the last election. When the man who was elected president is not the man in the White House, something is seriously wrong.

We need to hold all of our representatives accountable since they are in place by our vote. Even people who do not vote do in a manner decide to let other people make the decision for them and to live with it whatever they decide.

Other than trying to manage the situation as best possible, what exactly is Obama supposed to do about these children crossing our border? Order the guards to shoot children? Send still more members of the National Guard down there to keep watch over those already there at Rick Perry's' order at a cost of 12 million or more a month to ' observe the guardsmen already there to observe the children crossing? Exactly what does that accomplish besides spending 12 million more taxpayer's dollars?

I wonder what worse disasters we might all have prevented if we had only done the responsible thing when we had the opportunity?

Where was the outrage when Mr. Bush was invading Iraq for the fun of it just because he could. Hundreds of thousands of people died in that war, including our own soldiers, and people continue to die because of that war today.

In addition to hundreds of thousands of deaths because of GW's invasion of Iraq, there were more thousands of people mutilated who lost hands, feet, legs, arms, eyes, and even faces. Many received irreparable brain injuries their lives are changed for ever and their family's lives are changed forever as a result. How does all this death and mutilation compare to children crossing our borders illegally?

You are right in that we need to hold ourselves accountable for our own transgressions for we have control of ourselves. We should also hold our elected officials accountable to the extent we can, but I think we must be careful not to turn ourselves into hypocrites.

Voted up, and all, pinned to AH, and shared.
