Acrostic : For the good times

Updated on October 12, 2012
always exploring profile image

I am a writer of poetry and fiction. I especially love flash fiction. My name is Ruby, and I live in Southern Illinois. I am a retired R.N.

Children at play

Frolicking in new fallen snow

Over the icy hills

Running through frosted flakes

Tongue extended, cold thrills

Hanging out with sisters and brothers

Each holding on tight down steep hills

Gleefully screaming

Out loud echoes

Over the crusted dale

Delightful fun

Ten laughing hysterically

In tune with nature's winter fun

Making spit snow balls, building a snow man

Enthralled, building snow forts

Sleds racing, sledding days gone by.

*************************************************

Some of my followers know that I was one of twelve children, the last one, so by the time i arrived ten of the children had left home. They either got married or was off to work. My Sis Bea told me about the good times they had in the snow. Hope you enjoy...

This is my first attempt at Acrostic poetry. Thank you Eddy for teaching me the technique..

Congrats, dear Ruby, on your initial acrostic,

Though the theme has made me feel very frostic.

But the icy feeling for a while I will bear,

Since I can go outside - it is 80 out there!

Your poem inspired me to google "acrostic" poetry. Love this prelude to what will soon be. Your poem reminded me of all the winters I spent sledding down the hill at our home and skating on the pond at the bottom of the hill. Thanks for the beautiful memories, Ruby.

...well although I know all about winters by the lake here with its unforgiving wind chill - I never ever feel cold like winter when I arrive here on your sacred scene Ruby - to the contrary, you warm me up here like no other gal at the Hub (George told me to say that )

and the beauty is always found in your writing and in your dear heart and creative mind - sending you warm wishes from a sunny day by lake erie time 1:28pm and yes that wind chill is mighty cold - we are definitely in full fall mode with winter just straight ahead
