Present Age Wonder Kids (Poem)
I never met anyone who didn't have a very smart child. What happens to these children, you wonder, when they reach adulthood?
— Fran LebowitzFlowers made of Flesh and Blood
Almost a decade from now,
Someone gifted me a diary so wow,
A thick floral art diary,
Filled with pictures of flowers so nice!
Papers too reflect beauty,
Fell in love at the very first sight,
Thought to jot down my thoughts in a jiffy,
Well, checked myself from being in a hurry.
Later decided to pen down something unusual,
Again, after a while changed my mind,
Wished very next moment,
Let its blank pages be filled!
Wanted to write some stories,
Finally, kept it safely,
To transform it into a memoir special:
To capture a particular moment or a string of events,
Write about a dear one or all the loved ones,
Not just the ordinary experiences,
But, those that touched my heart.
A year passed by,
Wrote nothing only desired to write,
Failed to choose from my favorites,
Meantime my son was born:
First glimpse of his face, and I thought
What a beautiful flower he is!
First little touch and I felt
What a soft petal he is!
Smell of his body,
Sensed like a fragrant bouquet,
With experiences unnumbered life went on.
That floral art diary I noticed one day,
I reasoned my son suits the best,
None can be better than him,
A real beauty! A full of charm!
Strongly I believe and find,
Kids are the apt choice,
In no way they are less than a flower.
Nine years have passed by,
He seems to me a surprise package.
Everyday when I watch him grow,
He makes me glow.
Not just he but children of his age,
All of them simply amaze me,
The more and more I observe,
Praise after praise they deserve,
The more I notice,
These present age kids,
I wonder what to say,
I even flounder many times a day,
But, only genuine love it is!,
I have for this new age kid’s team.
Every present age child is a wonder,
They are simply a thunder,
One confuses, one stuns,
The other one leaves you mum,
The next one may horrify,
While another makes you cry,
Next may keep you guessing,
Other one may leave you laughing…
They are as beautiful as the morning dew,
Astonish all with their talent hue,
Brightens life like the early ray,
Touch hearts in every possible way.
Budding wonders with their ability,
Make all of us ponder deeply,
Let’s then feel free,
To exclaim collectively :
Wow! How shining little kids they are.
Can’t we greet them all?
With a heart full of zeal,
And hands full of lavender.
Be it parents or guardians,
Even teachers or well wishers,
Can’t we all try once?
It will be a lifetime experience!
Even for them and for us.
Our sweet little gesture,
Undoubtedly will be able to cheer,
The little wonders for years,
Never ever they will nurse any more fear,
There will be no more tears,
No sorrow will come near,
No problem to bear,
No hatred for the peers,
Let alone joy be their very dear,
And whole lot of love to share.
Hope you remember my floral art diary!
Now has got filled with my son’s query,
His multiple talents are my treasure,
Love reading it during leisure,
Confident I am when he will read,
He too will have extreme pleasure.
Sincerely, the present age little kids,
Truly are the beautiful flowers.

My Inspiration
This whole poem is very close to my heart not because I created this but the inspiration of this poem is my one and only son. He did not serve as an inspiration only but I would say my little one who is thirteen plus now is the integral character of this poem. It's so because I became mother of his after giving him birth but got emotionally connected only when I touched, caressed, felt his entity, smelt him and the whole world seemed to change for me. Though all the relationships are important for me, he somehow is the world. May be because he is my responsibility and I cannot shun or pass it on others.
Till date I enjoy to watch and try to figure out the changing phases of his life. I even notice and observe other children too. This observation has always made me feel that present day children are way ahead of the children during my childhood. They definitely possess something extra may be their exposure to the outer world has created all the difference but the x-factor is, these little children know how to execute their caliber in a smart fashion. They are tremendous, doing so many things at one time with so much ease and that makes them worth adoring.
