An Extra Ordinary trip Revisited.
Back seat dreams
fill her contemplative mind
as lives go by in a blur.
~
She sees the world as
a kaleidoscope of poetry,
the stubby old man hobbling
down fifth avenue, a troll,
the little girl on the corner
with an oversize lollipop
a fairy, with a magic wand.
~
She wishes that the wand
would make her
drive less bland.
~
Each window she passes
is a peephole denied
a glimpse into worlds
she'll never know.
~
A cute guy on a Schwinn
becomes her charming Prince
at a crossing marked with X's
at the tail end of a long train,
and in her imaginary world
she's kissing him.
~
But then the tracks
are crossed, and the
rumble steel skin of its rails
leave him far behind
bringing her back
to the drab
of streets she
knows too well.
~
But soon enough
she is home,
in old familiar rooms
encasing her
in a secured box,
yet her mind
escapes from
their familiarity
every once in a while,
when she composes a poem.
