the veil of portent

lifts slowly

over eyes blurred

with sleep

and greened with the scent of dreams

the potent grasses

blending their freshness

with the purple clad softness

of visions

of dormant bliss

and the result

a firing of light

in the darkened space of my ignorance

plasma thought

its apex

nuanced tears

behind

      Beautiful, Audrey. To me at least, an indeterminant meaning . . . which I find tantalizing. :) Theresa

      An interesting work my friend. It seems to give credence to the notion that our minds adapt swiftly, despite our sleep embellished states and each has a quick silver aptitude that may fire swiftly one minute and the next appear as a laziness, incarnate. Oh, forgive my rantings..nicely done. whonu

      Challenging associations. A poetic image needs two parts--even if one is only brushed or implied or latent......here, the "parts" are surreal, owing their existence as much to the idiosyncrasies of the reader's mind as to the elements of the poem itself. An extraordinary achievement.

      A very skillful piece of writing. I felt that it was the conscious mind awaking to the day from a night of slumber.

      It is very open to personal interpretation and weaves a winding path which pulls the reader right in to try to decipher the meaning.

      AUDREY --

      Just above, you said to Wayne that you've "been in a funk," and in other recent comments you've expressed dissatisfaction with your work--the dreaded "writers' cramp" (which seems to afflict us all, now and then)--is looming large! It certainly does NOT show, but if you feel it's there, it's there. I thought you might be comforted (or at least amused) by Sir Phillip Sidney's opening foray into his "Astrophel and Stella" (1591), a 160-sonnet appeal to his lady love to be less lady-like. And he begins by lamenting the dreaded "writer's cramp", feared as much by poets 412 years ago as it is today!

      Sidney saith.............

      Loving in truth, and fain in verse my love to show,

      That the dear she might take some pleasure of my pain,

      Pleasure might cause her read, reading might make her know,

      Knowledge might pity win, and pity grace obtain,

      I sought fit words to paint the blackest face of woe:

      Studying inventions fine, her wits to entertain,

      Oft turning others' leaves, to see if thence would flow

      Some fresh and fruitful showers upon my sunburned brain.

      But words came halting forth, wanting Invention's stay;

      Invention, Nature's child, fled stepdame Study's blows;

      And others' feet still seemed but strangers in my way.

      Thus, great with child to speak, and helpless in my throes,

      Biting my truant pen, beating myself for spite:

      "Fool," said my Muse to me, "look in thy heart, and write."
