And we won
t times the things we take for granted becomes our match point. I mean as far as we are alive, we are in a match and we expect to win but we need points to win. Our everyday experiences are our major competitors and the people around us are the audience and umpires. We all come across strokes that either take points away from us or add points to us.
One day while at the petrol station to top up the petrol in my car, I encountered a situation which to me wasn't the real deal but my love for story telling pushed me to act because I was moved the moment he got down from the tricycle. 'OMG! he rides that with one leg'. But what actually caught my instincts wasn't the one legged rider but the energy in him.
I almost drove out but something spoke to me, I am sure that if you are reading this that somehow you must have at a point in your life find yourself in a situation where you don't count something but the you in you counts the thing and you find yourself giving that thing the desired attention. That was exactly what happened to me because I approached him and we had a brief chat...
- Hey! how are you?
- I am fine sir
- My name is Mr Mobis and I am a film producer, I was moved when I saw you got down from this tricycle so if you don't mind, here is my card, give me a call at your free time so that we could meet and get to know more of each other. By the way what's your name and where do you stay?
- My name na Victor, I dey stay for Ikorodu, what time should I call you sir?
- Anytime you are free
That was our first encounter then he called me sometime around 9pm that day and we arranged to meet at the national stadium the next morning. To cut a long story short, we met and that meeting debunked what my instincts told me the previous day because Victor is a raw deal so I decided to do a short film about him. You know that film you do out of passion.
Please, continue reading because this is where it got very interesting. I got a friend involved and also came up on how to tell his story so we assembled all the people and logistics needed to make the story real and informative then the out come was this piece I titled 'Victor...the untold story'. However, i never bothered about the film after watching it, I wanted to simply have it posted on YouTube but my friend already had it on Vimeo and also submitted it to few film festivals.
The film went on to be selected in two film festivals and also privately screened in couple of film outlets then after one year, I felt that the film has not gotten the needed exposure because I actually wanted people to see it at least to see my film so I submitted it to few film festivals and was thrilled to see it accepted my Real Time International Film Festival where it was screened to a welcomed audience.
A renowned film distributor based in USA saw it and loved it and acquired the right to distribute it but this is not the end of the story because it was still awaiting selection in some film festivals then one selected it and right before my eyes, this little stone became the formidable stone in my film production foundation because it went on from been selected to gain a spot in the semi final and then to the finals and wow! wow! wow! and the winner of the 2018 edition of Cinema Touching Disability International Film Festival is...
VICTOR!!!
This little piece which I did with no budget, a passion film has turned out to be the best film I have ever produced and the first film to get me recognised and win an award with. A big match point indeed, isn't it? If you still believe that little things don't matter then read this again perhaps you missed a point.
Like our page and help us share this as we wait for the release of this inspirational piece.
