Anticipatory
Pretty little dainty Socks
black or white patent leather shoes.
Daddy can I wear my pretty dan -dan Today?
As he lovingly combs my hair catching the short
stubs, and makes the usual braids
one in front and two in back
Ribbons cut to suit and tied around
the tiny little braids that from my head.
I dance about expectantly.
talcum powder lavished my skin
Kuskus, behind the ear.
Daddy, will I wear my dress Today?
quietly he held out a slip and I step through,
eagerly eyeing the pretty little dress
that on the bed lay,
undershirt came next,
then he intoned, go to your Mother and have your meal.
A pout appeared on pretty red lips
as I made my way reluctantly.
My pretty white dress with little pink roses adorning the neck,
tiny little eyelet's in the shape of leaves run along the hem,
and a pretty pink rose on each corner hung
Little green leaves made from thread
I imagine with such loving care.
My Sister came next looking just as me.
We talked about our pretty little dresses, and matching gloves, the
little pink or yellow purse that matched our clothes.
Christmas or Easter dress's always new, always held
excitement and the start of things new!
A rebirth a hope for beautiful things to come.
