As We Say Goodbye
Seeing the Light in Darkness
Today I said goodbye
to my only love
between the days
and nights
hours and minutes
of my loneliness.
Though you barely noticed
time and time again
those second chances
dimmed my spirit
sadden my soul.
Bogged down
by the weight
of a bruised heart,
I’ve shuffled and drifted
through a daze
of broken promises
and false wishes.
So hard to part.
Repeated neglect
such a familiar story
provides sweet comfort
among the unknown.
As we say goodbye,
though I will not let you see,
my very last tears
of a long trail
have fallen to the ground
no more to come
for all my days.
I will stand strong
to face my tomorrow.
