Athena Debased & other Poems

the creek water does
not question - it just flows, goes
it knows all is well
Athena Debased
Why does Sadie always smell
of alcohol?
(not beer, maybe whiskey)
She looks like Mother Earth and Athena
Her mind is keen
it works, organizes, analyzes, thinks.
From a distance, all seems well
but close up...
the smell
Sometimes I Wonder what my Brain is Doing
Today, what makes it so sharp?
Why can I solve the world’s problems in two seconds?
How is it that I can do math calculations in my head?
What could be the reason I know the exact right thing to say?
Not like yesterday.
Yesterday I would go to the kitchen and
by the time I got there, forgot why…
I would go to my computer to do something and
forget how…
I tried to speak soothing words and
all that came out was, “What?”
Sometimes I wonder about my brain.
Then the days when the wiring must really be shorted
I start with greatness
Get lame
Regain
I’m in the game
But don’t remain
In and out
Like a boxing bout
Is it my power supply?
The Eye
I stare upon this page
She will not let me stop
She wonders, thinks, recalls,
imagines
I stare upon this page
She sips hot chocolate,
scribbles some words,
taps the table with her pen
rests her head in her hand
I stare upon this page
She smiles at yesterday's memories
She
worries about tomorrow
I stare out through the window
WRONG!
I love
Making mistakes
With permission
They open doors
And windows
See new stuff
