Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) -Sometimes I Can't Stay Still-In A Poem

Updated on December 30, 2012

I Can't Sit Still!

It's Hard For Me

©2012 LaDena Campbell aka justateacher

Sometimes I can’t sit still

I can’t focus on what I have to do

My mind runs a mile a minute

It looks like I’m not listening to you

I try to listen to what you say

I want to do my work

I’m glad that you give me a chance

Last year’s teacher thought I was a jerk

My mom doesn’t want me to take medicine

She’s afraid that it might make me sick

She says I have to learn how to deal with it

I’m glad you are teaching me tricks

I like it when you give space

A taped square around my chair

You let me move all around

As long as I stay in there

I like how you made me a rocking chair

By covering the legs with tennis balls

Last year my teacher made me feel little

This year you make me feel so tall

I like coming into your classroom

I do everything that you ask

You are more than a teacher

You are a woman with so much class!

This is such a great picture of,and aptly describes the feelings of an ADHD child in school... school can be such a nightmare for them...they so need understanding, patient, supportive teachers like yourself. Well done and thanks for sharing it with us.

What a great idea with the tape!

You are a teacher with creative ideas.

No wonder the children love you.

Blossom -the tape idea came when one of my little friends just could not sit still...a teacher friend of mine suggested making him a tape space and a chair with tennis balls on a front leg of the chair and the opposite back leg to allow the chair to walk. This with a piece of rough Velcro on the underside of his desk did wonders...and I still use those tricks!

Maybe if you had been my son's teacher I wouldn't have pulled him out of school :)

Now I home-school my ADHD son, but it's all good because I have it too!

(and I AM one of those mom's that won't drug my kids)

      Very cute poem. Great job.

Mom Kat - We have too many parents and doctors who think the only way to handle ADHD is with drugs instead of teaching them how to deal with it...then we have too many parents who won't medicate children who desperately need it...I salute you for knowing what is right for your child and are willing to help him learn...thanks for reading! Glad you enjoyed it!
