i have no thought

other than observing

wind chimes tinkle

as wind picks up, biting porch

nipping shutters

poised in relentless readiness

they sound an A

on wind’s new chill

the rain will start soon

teapot whistles

an A

as i settle upon tea

i want something big and bold

as i am sleepy

but sleep pulls corners of eyes down

toward a dreamless nap

awaiting the first breath of autumn

upon forehead

a loving caress

Brilliant poem wishing for Autumn to arrive. It would be so nice to have a real autumn with all the change of color.

      Voted up and beautiful, Joyce

The frantic growing season of spring and summer tires both man and nature, so the respite of autumn is a welcome pause before the harsh rigors of winter.

      Beautiful work, Audrey, as always.

I love Autumn and all of its beautiful colors and cooler air. It just seems like the other day, everyone was writing about spring, and was writing such lovely poetry in the 30-day challenge, which I was oblivious to, as I had just joined Hub Pages. I thought, wow, there are a lot of poets writing poetry about Spring on Hub Pages!!! I remember just being amazed, and now here it is about to be Autumn. Lovely poem. In His Love, Faith Reaper

Definitely my favorite time of the year. No more dealing with temperatures that make breathing tough and impossible to stay dry. A light jacket and freshness in the air. A rest from the struggles of the summer. Loved It! Great Job!

Audrey -- I am waiting impatiently, hopefully, hungrily for autumn. In the South we have such an extended summer, I do not have it i me to be philosophical and patient. Needless to say, your poem was like water for a thirsty soul. Beautiful and interesting...perhaps I will hear the rustle of leaves and feel the slight chill in the air before too long. ~~ Theresa

Voted up and beautiful. Reminds me of those first crisp days of autumn when nothing but hot tea will do. Conjured up pictures of wind chimes tinkling as autumn leaves dance about. Enjoyed much. Passed on.

Hi Audrey, and what a lovely poem this one is.

Being that you're more the erudite than I am. What does it mean when you don't capitalize the "i" - or does it even mean anything at all?

Voted up and beautiful and awesome

      John

    • AudreyHowitt profile image
      Author

Audrey Howitt 4 years ago from California

Hi John--Thank you! I think I am going through a phase about capitalization---sometimes the i for me is a way to take away importance from the observer in the piece--to make the observer a part of the piece as a whole--anyway--that is how I am thinking about it right now--

The words capture the picture so well. One of my favorite things to witness is exactly what the picture represents. It makes you want to grab a cup of tea and just walk amongst the trees along a path. Loved the poem as it captured my mind and thoughts! Voting up.

Autumn is just around the corner and very colorful and pretty in the north and northeast. Here in Texas it can be colorful, but mostly the colors are subdued and don't arrive until October sometime. Well done. I could almost feel the crispness in the air and I'm looking forward to it!
