BYE, BYE, FLORIDA...by b. Malin
ON THE ROAD AGAIN...
I just hate to get on the road again...Homeward bound...Monday morning... Or this morning, depending upon when you are reading my Hub. I'll be traveling for a few days, leaving my beloved Florida, and all those fun filled memories of the last few months. I'm going to miss the "Condo with the View". Which now looks all Shiny and New...Lots of "Blood, (we cut outselves a few times) Sweat (yeah, I'm admitting to that one) and Tears...Some Happy Tears... And some, ready to KILL EACH OTHER TEARS"...But in the end, making up, and making Love...Going to the Pool at night for a swim, because we can...and feeling oh so Proud of all that we've accomplished. And Now I'd like to share a Laugh or two...
A few days ago, Lover Man says to me, "Hey, it's Wednesday...It's Spaghetti night at Venezia". We have just finished another project, and I hadn't even thought about dinner until that moment. Now I have to tell you, "Venezia's" is not just another Italitan Restaurant. Oh no, It is run by a "Family". There is the Wife, who is this Buxom young woman, with Curves all over... and long, flowing, streaked hair...and this Wonderful thick Italian accent. She doubles as the Hostess, as well as the Waitress. You are greeted by her in a "Polite" or "Extremely Friendly" or "Huggs and Kisses" fashion. I guess it depends on how many times you have been there. We, having been there only twice, so we are greeted Politely. However we do get her leaning on the table as she takes our order, then hands on hips, and then a snap of the finger to "Momma" to fill our water glasses. You feel like you are part of a Woody Allen Movie...Where's the Camera? Better yet, where's Woody?
"Momma" comes scurrying over quickly and fills our glasses. "Momma, she says, bring the Hot Garlic rolls". Momma, runs off...Momma, never Walks she Runs. Our Sultry Waitress, bends low to our table and says, "Momma, comes from Greece, she is a relative on my husband's side of the family"...after telling us this, she seems to snort, with distain...and then goes on. "We are family, we try to help her...she knows No English". Now Momma is back with the rolls, and then off she runs. "She's like a little Greek Road Runner" I say to Lover Man when the waitress has finally left our table. A few minutes later, a frustrated man at another table say's to the waitress, how do I get her attention" he say's, pointing in "Momma" direction. She just keeps running by. I'd like some Wine". The waitress eyes him for a moment before moving those hips over to his table. And once again we hear her tell the tale of Momma. And as I listen, and watch Momma, I find myself starting to LAUGH...She's so cute. One of the women at this man's table decides to try to talk to Momma in Italian. "She's GREEK", the waitress say in a Tone that implies, Don't be Stupid, she can't understand you... pay attention to Me, I'm the Star! The woman smiles, but you can tell she feels embarrased. But not the waitress, this is her Show and she knows it. As once again, Momma is running by.
We are served our food, and it is mouth wateringly GOOD. The waitress' husband is the Chef. We are to learn that they have two children. Momma, has two sons, whom the family will also send for. The Sons want to become "Chiropractors". The waitress rolls the words in her thick accent "CHIROPRACTORS... We will make room for them, she sighs, after all that's what families do...Right"? "Right" Lover Man and I say in unison. "Dessert"? she says leaning low on the table and showing off her full cleveage. We both shake our heads and say, we are full...and how delicious everything was. She stands up and smiles. "I like you two...you come back again soon". Before we can reply she is off to greet "Regulars" who are getting Huggs, and Kisses...the full Treatment!
So, I'm going to miss this Restaurant, and The Beach, which we've only been to once, but of course there's always next season... I also going to miss Friends, old ones, and new ones, we've made. And I miss you guys, my "Hub Writer Friends". But I'll be back on line in a few days...And so, I'm on the Road Again... back to the Jersey Shore.
