Be You (Haiku)

Updated on July 18, 2012
Don't Let Nothing Stop You From Being You!
Don't Let Nothing Stop You From Being You!

Be Yourself

Don't pretend to be

Something you're not meant to be

Just please be yourself

That makes you unique

Different than everyone else

You're the only you

So just stay that way

Don't go and change persona

That's not who you are

Don't fake who you are

And try to deceive the world

That's not what you want

Just be the real you

And whatever comes your way

Don't stop being you

If being you brings

Hardship and pain let it come

You can get through it

Just let you be you

And let nothing interfere

You from being you

      Dear Josh,

I say frequently that haikus are my very favorite form of poetry. I love them even more when they are of an inspirational... mantra like musing.

It took me a long time in life to develop my own affirmations, haiku-style. I share them with my students. To me, you are incredibly wise for your years, comfortable in your skin with priorities straight. I love when 'age learns from youth' and I am continuously discovering and learning something new from your writings. Not being presumptuous, have you considered teaching or speaking in your life journey?

Have a wonderful evening. Hugs, Maria

I like this poem, but it lacks a bit of nature for a Haiku, but it was well worth the effort in formulating it Josh. I'm just being me, and I am not afraid to be honest with folks, that may make or break me in the end, but like you said be you even if it hurts.

I love the meaning and overall goal of this poem, and so I am definitely voting it up, and out even if it falls slightly short on fulfilling the Haiku parameters of a "natural", connection and or some scene of nature such as a 'Mountain' hint, hint, hint.

Cheers to awesome poetry and hub writing bro.

Hey Josh, I mis-read the Wikipedia definition bro, your version is the English version of a Haiku, and so you're safe :)

Yikes, these definitions are truly tough, Hehe! At least I was being as real as I can be, but sometimes being too real in the wrong way can do more harm then good, for sure.

My bad bro, and the best part of being even more realer (Not a word, or one that fits there, but oh well), is admitting to making an error, and or being in the wrong, when you are in fact wrong.

Boy was I wrong about your Haiku here, because your Haiku is 100% accurate.

Now I gotta start trying to write Haiku's in the american version, and all this time I was following the Japanese version, thanks bro for the cool lesson, LOL.

Sharing with everyone I can, Cheers to being real bro & in every way possible today.

No problem at all bro! I didn't think there was anything wrong with it, but I was definitely open to suggestions as to something I was not made aware of :) But, yeah, no problem buddy! I am glad that you were trying to hlep me, even though you may have been misinformed. It is the thought that counts. :) Have a good night Mike!
