Becoming Your Own Muse

Updated on November 3, 2011

Advice To Students et al

If you search through your soul to the mirror of your mind,

You might be amazed at the image you find.

Continue to stare (though you might think it odd),

And you'll spot something glowing beneath the facade.

Next, if you have the courage to gaze even more,

To move past appearances, open the door.

You might find a person no one ever knew:

The real, inviolate, unabashed YOU.

Don't settle for someone you'd like us to see

If that's not the person you know you can be.

Don't wait 'til the face in the mirror is cracked

From chances you missed and from courage you lacked.

Don't let YOUR reflection look like all the rest.

Don't settle for "good as" when you can be BEST.

And how do you do that when it's just not cool

To reach for your own stars? They'll think you're a fool....

Except if you've chosen the right friends for YOU.

They all will be focused on their own mirrors, too,

And dreaming their own dreams, while searching their souls,

Creating their true selves, attaining their goals.

Thanks, jfay. You're right; dreams don't have to remain unfulfilled.
