We all enjoy a good romance novel when we can relax with our book or our Kindle or other electronic reader, but what are the best selling novels?

Nowadays all the best sellers are available in both Kindle form or as paperbacks, occasionally even hardback.

To save you standing in a bookshop reading back covers I have brought you a selection of best selling romance novels, each with a short description of what the book is about.

The best selling books are always the best at any given time, and to save disappointment I am happy to put in print any negative comments reviewers have made about any book.

Of course, everybody's perception of what we read is different anyway. What someone else hates you might love and vice-versa, so don't be put off by negative reviews.

A Touch So Wicked (Avon Romantic Treasure) by Connie Mason.

A passionate romance novel set in the Scottish Highlands in olden times. Knight Damien arrives to prevent the wedding of Elisa which would unite two powerful clan against the English. Sparks fly between the two, and Jake quickly finds himself involved in a situation where past secrets are revealed, leading to life destroying consequences.

Lady in Green and Minor Indiscretions (Signet Regency Romance) by Barbara Metzqer.

Two books in one.

Lady in Green is a humorous comedy about a young woman, Annalise Avery, who runs away to an aunt's house in London to escape a possible forced marriage taking her personal staff with her, only to find her aunt not at home. The house is in the process of being sublet to a randy member of the aristocracy, Lord Gardiner. They move in and take over as staff, but Lord Gardiner only rents the house for love trysts, which disapproving Annalise does her best top thwart.

Minor Indiscretions tracks the tale of a young society woman thrust into poverty who is shocked and disgusted by the antics of lecherous Lord Coe who is determined to win her heart.

Thief of Hearts by Victoria Taylor Murray.

First in a four-part series, Thief of Hearts is an incredibly well written fiction story about a double murder on a holiday island called Lambert, frequented by the super-rich. Full of suspense with realistic characters, this book features drama, romance, murder, passion, betrayal and revenge all in one. You won't want to put this down. Buy the follow-ups as you start this one, because you will want to go straight on to reading them.

Say You Need Me by Kayla Perrin.

Unlikely but highly intriguing romantic tale of a woman who is deeply with love with a gorgeous man. Thinking him to be Mr Right, she is shattered when he snuck out of life with her life savings and a priceless diamond necklace. Just two weeks later, she spots him dining, bold as brass, in a local restaurant and calls the police. But the man turns out to be a stranger, who just happens to be the identical twin brother of her first love. Like in a typical good guy/bad guy scenario, the twin is mortified to learn of what his brother has done and vows to help her bring him to justice. The twin is everything his brother was not, kind, gentle, honest, but how can she fall in love with him when she sees the same face as the one who broke her heart?

Almost Perfect (McCloud Brothers) by Patricia Rice.

Story of a cartoonist in search of inspiration, Jared McCloud, who rents an isolated cottage. His landlady is a beautiful ex-addict who is trying to stay clean in order to regain custody of her young son. he find her attractive and makes advances which she rejects as she does not want the complication of romance in her life. However, a storm throws the pair together. They then become involved in protecting a couple of teenagers who have been abused by their mother and her sexually deviant boyfriend. There are some very serious social issues raised in this book which have been handled exceptionally well,  with a good narrative and strong characters.

Highland Heroes: The Pretender by Jaclyn Reding.

The first in a series of Highland Hero books historically set in the mid 1700s, in the times of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Highland Rebellion, and is certainly one to get your teeth into. It tells the story of Lady Elizabeth Drayton, daughter of an English duke who is sent to Scotland after being caught authoring political posters advocating rights for women. En route, she is enraged to learn from her sister that their father has arranged a marriage for her with a Highland landowner. Their carriage breaks down, and a dashing Scotsman come to their assistance. Elizabeth, thinking he is a commoner, sleeps with him at the Inn they chose for an overnight stop. However, the 'commoner' turns out to be none other than her intended. A blend of humor, history and romance.
