Bewitched - or - beWitched?
CXXV111.
The verb 'bewitch' lists a couple of definitions. One involves the casting of magic spells and thereby, gaining control over someone. That bodes no good.
The other involves the enchanting and delighting of someone, suggesting being the result of honorable attractive traits of character and personality, That bodes good.
So what's the problem, if any? None if we keep some things in mind!
Whichever definition/interpretation comes to mind in a person upon hearing the word "bewitch" (or any of its derivative parts of speech) depends on that person's own experience - or its lack - with either or both conditions of being 'bewitched', which is the title here. It emphasizes the effect rather than the act of bewitching as experienced by a recipient of either magic spells for control or being touched by enchanting, delightful influences. Ah-h-h!

Such contrasting mental associations with this word, 'bewitch' are not unlike mental-emotional battles between the 'madonna' image for woman vs. the 'seductive slut' image, which seems to haunt some guys at times. In the reverse, a similar mental-emotional battle between the 'nice guy' image and the 'bad boy' image haunts some gals at times. There's an intrinsic gender equality about it!
But, no, this isn't about that psychology; merely bears mentioning as it relates to the idea of 'bewitched' which might be prevalent among my readers - or not.
My personal association with 'bewitched' has only to do with being entranced and delighted. Any experience of mine with controlling persons involved nothing bewitching for me. Quite the contrary! That can happen, though, as we see all too frequently, especially to the young and/or vulnerable for various reasons.
Which witch am I?
Which witch are you?
Which witch we'd like to be,
We - ARE!
I'm benign!
You, too?
My pixie dust is light and kind,
Dark and dreary,
I won't do. . .
. . . So far. . .
