Buried Treasures

Having never really loved before

I never knew till now

That love's an aging process.

Since then I've aged

        Mere lifetimes

And remembered things forgot

A hundred other years ago.

I hope that this lifetime's

       Long enough

For us to meet again.

If not, I will await next time.

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

Bliss, ~

Whatever name it's given.

I find in your embrace,

I see it in your eyes

and the smile upon your face.

it's my undoing

My delight

Every time it is beheld;

I'm spellbound -

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

That child

Who smiled

So knowingly,

So wisely,

Beguiled my heart

From time

With melodies

Of life.

And he became

My soul-son.

And he became

That man

Who filled my soul.

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

To feel the kinship stirred,

And to express,

To its mutual passion's voice,

Heard only heart to heart;

But never to possess

Or hold

In tenacious, jealous grip

What only IS, if felt

And shared ~

Such love averred

Most fully,

Tenderly dwelling there

Between the lovers,

Lets each one grow,

Allowed to come and go

At will,

To return again

By choice each time,

To still express

Most eloquently

Its joy

Without a single word.

Passes too soon,

      And flies

Right over my head.

     Though it

Returns too soon

To haunt me.

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

Did I hear

A kitten

At my door?

Was it

A cat

I've known

Perhaps it was!

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

Barely come

    But done ~

        So briefly.

           It was - and is

      Now vanished

   Back into the ether

From whence

   It came.

       Yet still - it WAS!

   It left its light

            Within my

       Lightened heart!

Inner light,

Glows and variegates

Into beautiful free patterns

Upon the screen of life.

Tony - thank you for those most encouraging comments! (forgive the delay in replying -I got my preferences for notification messed up and just now found this).

Well - if you've read my prose, you will have noticed that the brevity of my poetry does not spill over much to my prose! I laughingly admit that is how I can tell which is which form I've written! LOL. Poetry just comes to me in few words and clear impressions. Prose seems to have a life of its own and even with a clear premise, wants to expand almost beyond tolerability. Sometimes I go back and compact it a bit, but after the time spent writing it - sometimes it seems like throwing more time at too much more time to bother. If I'm writing a business letter or report, of course, it is concise. No probing or considering of other "sides" is needed.

In poetry - it's also an invitation to collaborate with the reader in establishing all the deeper, random, and subjective accouterments to fit it to and for himself. A common sensitivity is only a step into more.

When writing them, I am satisfied - when reading them, more involvement may be needed to be satisfied. If not, of course, that is ok too.

Thanks again for the insight! I hadn't thought of this exactly the way I just described, which your response inspired.

Well, now, Lady NHellieanna, these poems are really a treat. You have the gift of saying a great deal in a very few words, a gift I don't seem to have! LOL! I always take forever to say what I mean, it seems to me.

I love the lightness of touch which belies the depths hinted at and not fully revealed, just tempting the reader to go a little deeper, a little slower. Wonderful indeed, like a good meal or a wonderful conversation.

      Thanks for sharing these.

BTW I think OCs are the best kind - we have one who comes frequently, asks for a little loving, and leaves again. No fuss and no bother, but we have the pleasure of his company for an hour or two!

      Love and peace

Oh, it is home when I am sitting at my computer and reading Nellieanna's poetry! So beautiful and soothing! I love all of your poems here. But, as a cat lover, I especially resonated with the kitten one. I do think all felines are masters at reincarnation!

christopheranton - Thank you!!! You took the words right out of my mouth when you said "if only life could be like a poem - but then, when I really think about it, it is" - !!

I think of the poetry as a mere reflection of life, in fact. Mostly it is the reflection of the INNER life, however, which is usually only visible to others as the smile or frown on someone's face and the manner in which they meet the vagaries of "life" as people often think of as being what life really is. In fact, nothing "out there" really has a meaning to us personally until we apply our inner senses to interpreting it. It is not really the internal life needing justification,it is those externals which come and go with no special meaning for us till we give them some! Happens that poetry is singularly effective as a direct channel for displaying and telling about all that.

See how you make me think!!! Hugs,

Nellianna. If I could experience love like your imaginings, I would be having a brilliant time. If only all life could be like a poem. But then, when I really think about it, it is.

Ah - those kittens one hears! I really had thought I heard one! I even got up and peered out onto the patio after switching on the light. A little disappointed there was no one there, but glad all the kittens in the neighborhood had better places to be in the middle of the night than on my patio! Some of the sweetest kitties I've known, though, have been OCs - occasional cats. Not the kind one can adopt but the kind one can love when they come around.

Thanks, dear one - for the early visit here! Had a few recent writing inspirations I just wanted to share. Hugs.
