Business Casual in a Bag

Updated on April 30, 2011

We choose what we will carry
Each item with a bewildered care
Misunderstanding the concept
Of weight
Packing it mindfully
In an unknown container

Learning the meaning of
We shoulder
The weight
Of what we

We know better
We blame others
If it is hard
To bear

We learn
To adjust the straps
Settle into the burden
Teach our legs to pump out miles

Still later
We learn
The weight
Is fictional
The burden
Real only
In our minds

We realize
We are
The burden

Thank you, marlanasifter. It is refreshing to get some actual criticism on HP.

Hey, I loved this! The first poem I've read on this site with some understanding of where line breaks should be...

      You should add punctuation though.

Nicely said at the end. We are the burden. Yes indeed.
