Cadillac-Don't Bug Me And My Fleetwood-Mac

Updated on February 27, 2010

I’d like to be behind the wheel of one of the finest cars.

I could buy myself a new one or maybe go to mars.

I don’t have the funds so that I could go that route,

So I’ll take a trip back in time, or maybe do without.

I can pretend I’m cruising with hoi polloi,

I’ll pretend my Cadillac “ride” is just another toy.

1903 Cadillac Runabout

I wish I could take a trip back to nineteen hundred and three.

I’d buy a Cadillac Runabout for my sweat-heart and me.

1927 Cadillac Victoria

Maybe a 1927 Victoria Coupe would be the Cadillac.

But it would be so hard to mount a proper bike rack.

It would be so cool; I’d feel so alive,

If only I could go back to 1955.

Elvis had some Fleetwoods and liked the color pink.

He had an El Dorado and painted it grape, I think.

I‘ve known some older Caddies and loved how they could float,

Like sailing on the ocean in a huge and wonderful boat.

El Dorado

I got into a time machine and tripped to 1993.

I bought an El Dorado that I felt was right for me.

I tried to update the stereo but the speakers really stunk.

I crashed into a toll booth and sold it just for junk.

Cadillac Deville

So I went back in the time machine to 1994.

I bought a Cadillac De Ville, a classic old four door.

It’s smooth and clean with pretty leather seats.

It’s a great car for a frugal old man, to cruise the city streets.

I love the way it floats, like a ship out on the sea.

When I top a short, steep hill, the hood is all I see.

This Caddy is so long I don’t have the slightest clue,

Where my front bumper is or where the rear is too.

I didn’t make this car or make the seats of leather.

But in the end it’s I, who has to decide if whether,

I should have gone more in debt and bought another car,

That uses a lot less gas and takes me oh so far.

But I would need another job and need a lot more bread.

So I went back in time and bought a smoother ride instead.

Alas and alack, please cut me some slack,

I’m really just giving recycling a whack.

So don’t be bugging me or my Fleetwood Mac.

I'm just an old "has-been" driving my Cadillac.
