Not Meant To Be (prose)
And as I sit here remembering the moments when our life together began to shatter into pieces, I wonder how could we have started so strong only to be so fragile in the end. Was it you? Was it me? Because in the end, we were staring at the ground at the shards of the life we shared. We can see the breaks, the damage, and the cracks. We can see it so clearly now how everything went wrong. So why can't we pick up these pieces and solve this puzzle?
Then the hollowness empties out the hope cracking open the walls of denial that have been building up so long. Pounding against the ice around my soul until denial can no longer hold back the truth -- we aren't meant to be... We were meant to fall in this battlefield. Our love was supposed to die. Love built on shallow rocks will only falter against a strong wind. We weren't built to ride out this storm.
