Certain Restrictions Apply

Updated on July 19, 2014

Certain Restrictions Apply

Even on a good day

Those three words

Pack way too much punch

I’m gonna start a new business:

I am gonna make labels

we can hang on our collars

as we glide in and out of each and every day;

as we march to tunes

dancin’ in our heads;

as we march

down every street,

drive down every dirt road…

My labels will have a special power.

They will shine brightly

polished reflections in

darkest of nights

Folks will laugh at me and call me a fool

a one woman wild western show

selling tags like some crazy

medicine man pitching a tent

on the city limit’s mulched and mowed lawn

no big brand names or come late/come early trends

just little white boxes with no writing or scribbling

only the emblematic hue

of the wearer

a badge

that only fits one size fits all

glittery points at each and every pole

How much truer we will all be

when we hold hands and not grenades

Hands will start extending

No more indexing

Or palm reading

Before long

hands will hold hands

every corner

every street

every town

all this hand holding will make our planet sway

back and forth

a kind of

come over/come over

cradling dreams in a celestial crib

restrictions need not apply

Mega Bloks are great for sparking ltilte imaginations being all colorful & bright. Our grandaughter loves to build ltilte houses for her teeny, tiny dolls & could spend half the day arranging & rearranging the mega bloks to suit her style.

Kim, I almost miss this beautiful poem...."hold hands rather than grenades" seems particularly poignant in this current atmosphere of hate and intolerance. Loved it!

Oh, Kim, this is one of the best poems I've read in a long time.

I loved the concept of the blank labels...and that" restrictions need not apply...cradling dreams in a celestial crib." Wonderful! :-)

Thank You! I can't seem to get this image out of my hand of the world's peoples holding hands and together creating a world filled with the security and warmth we all want our own children to feel when we rock them in our homes in our own cribs...

Here's to rock-a-bye all of us babes,

Kim, it would be a pleasure to wear one of your tags/badges and hold hands to help bring the world together and become a better more accepting place. Take care dear friend. Voted up.

Thank you so much. You are always so kind. I was hoping the last line would -at the very least-cause readers to pause-leaving a reader breathless--well, that's pure gold.

Folks have been so kind lately. Almost finished. Will be visiting Amazon soon--Smiles.

      Kevin and Suzette,

      I suppose we can wish...

Thank You for sharing in the dream of a world where we

      hold hands rather than grenades.

Where we feel wanted and warm...

Blessings to you both and hoping your part of the world is colorful and filled with all the good I believe is within our grasp.

Beautiful Kim. Blank labels so we don't label one another. Wouldn't that be the perfect world?

That was be-e-autiful Kim. Blank tags to bring peace to the world, I love it. I hate war and violence. I voted it up times (?), U/A/B/I. I also shared and pinned it.
