Concerns About Our Country

Updated on January 29, 2017

Problems Brewing

A new president in office

Since January 20, 2017

Many changes taking place

My wife and I discussing the issues in the news

We both are shocked and interested in what is happening

Are the changes we hear and see making life better ?

There are ways to do things in attempt to correct problems and issues

When you look at the results

You hope the changes you see

Improves the quality of life for people and society

My wife watches the news and hears the protests

I try to keep an open mind

Looking at the bigger picture

Then I think why would someone do that ?

Is that neccessary ?

I keep thinking the issues we hear about are more complicated

In the news we are only hearing part of the story

As we continue on with our afternoon

Going to work and earning a day's pay

Wondering how these problems affect not just me but both of us

My wife and I already have had a few discussions

That have turned into heated arguments

So as two rational adults

We realize this is not healthy for either of us

We have decided to try to list the facts we hear

Next to each fact put each of our opinions and views

Keeping our views open to suggestions

This way we keep are emotions from escalating

We are discussing issues that we both have different views

Trying to keep it simple

I will list a couple of the issues we are discussing

We have made it this far

Better than last night

Where we raised our voices and lost control

This is a small step in the right direction

Hearing both sides of an issue

Our own poem

On a husband and wife debate

Who is right

Who is dead wrong

I heard this

That's not true

Just because it's in the news

It doesn't mean it happened that way ?

How else could it have happened ?

I don't know

I can't come up with an instant answer

The problems not just going to go away

Something has to be done

Bottom line

Nothing has to be decided right now

There might not be a perfect solution

We have to remember

Love keeps us together

Listening to the experts and their position

What if they don't know ?

We are learning more than before

No matter what the results may be

We have to get along

We have to have trust in each other

Respect and honesty is the key

Nellieanna There are so many people being picked for positions that they might not be the most qualified for. That is a very scary thought. I don't understand the president and his staffs reasoning. Time will be the real test. We have to trust our democratic system that the people that vote the right people in can also vote the wrong people out. A proper checks and balances. Thank you for reading and sharing. We have three inches of snow here. Hope your morning is the start of wonderful day. (shells)

It is not wise to "throw out the baby with the bath water." The baby in the current metaphor is our country, its constitution and its ongoing relationships with all the other countries. The bathwater is drastic current policies happening thoughtlessly. I want to be optimistic about it, but it's nearly impossible to be.

However, I've lived through many challenges, and, personally, intend to live though this one.

Nellieanna Every time my wife and I heard the news something else happened that make us uncertain feeling strange and uncomfortable. I keep making suggestions this is how change takes place. I grew up with hearing all my life politics is crooked. All politicians lie. They have to make wild promises they can't keep to win the support of their voters. Then have have to play the game. For once someone not in politics is trying to make changes in a corrupt system. For years politicians have lied to the public and done things behind the publics back. Now Donald Trump is telling people straight out what he is going to do and many people are affected by his decisions. You can see how the stock market was on an all time high now it keeps dropping. I don't think there are easy solutions to the problems. It has to be a working progress. I see a lot of opposition because politicians are use to following their own agenda. There was an old saying of someone who tipped over the apple cart. It doesn't matter who did. Let's stop playing the blame game and move forward. Now let's find ways to pick up the apples. My wife thinks they need to have another politician who doesn't cause trouble and makes slow changes not drastic ones. The trouble is the problem is not solved. It's like putting a bandaid on a cut that needs stitches. It won't heal properly and we will have bigger and worse problems in the future. We have to do it right the first time. Who knows the cut might even require surgery.A lot of risks in surgery but it has to be done. Any suggestions or guidance much appreciated. I told my wife before Donald Trump became president we didn't follow politics one bit now we are thinking and learning more. Thank you for reading and sharing.

We shall certainly see and find out.

What we have seen has raised . . . questions.

      They will not remained unanswered.

Changing Tides 2331 It is always better to know a little about what is going on in the world. Even if we are not happy with the news we hear we can search to read more. The more information we learn the better informed we become. Thanks for reading and sharing. It has only been a week and so much to think about. My thoughts and prayers go to those who make the laws and rules for everyone else to follow. That they will think smart and do what has to be done.

Jodah Most of the news doesn't immediately affect us. In the future I am sure we will feel the impact. We do feel bad for so many people that are dealing with problems because of the presidents decisions. Thank you for reading and sharing. Politics can be so confusing. A lot of mumbo jumbo. What are they really trying to tell us. How much money goes to huge salaries for big business we don't know about. As we keep watching side by side we are glad we are not in politics because we have nothing to hide.

Well said, Dream On. My wife and I don't always agree on current affairs issues either. But you can't always believe what the media tells you and you need to keep an open mind.
