Constant Critic

Updated on May 21, 2013

You’re always there

to lend a helping hand

being sure

to point out my flaws

and say out loud

what I’ve done all wrong.

Expectations undefined

demands too high to see

drowning in a sorrow

of mine alone.

When you come around

I am sure to know

the dissatisfied stare

harsh words to follow

walk of disgust

that let's me know

all I give

never good enough.

Days and nights

slaving away

matter little

to the challenge

of my constant critic

nipping at my heels.

This hits so close to home. These people and their sort can take someone who has given her life to her profession and then-these "critics," who have managed to garner more power than rightfully-deserved seem to seek out others for whom they can actively belittle; and after awhile, make that someone into their go to scapegoat...these are those who are the adult bullies that never seem to be held accountable--for they have mastered turning the focus off of their own shortcomings by (even if they have to twist the truth) in order to make themselves feel as though they are deserving of the power they have so abused at the expense of others...Unfortunately, running from these people is not always an option for they lurk in the shadows and are master manipulators. Voted UP!

I hear that! People like us laugh hard and love hard... what's the point of emotios if they aren't intense? (I've been known to cry over Pampers commercials :-)

When I deal with miserable people, I work hard to remember that is is usually about their own unhappiness than about anything that I have done. Good poem! Voted useful.

Only feel like this occasionally . . . I think I am sensitive and feel things very intensely. Thanks for reading Cat.

I've lived here a many times! What an ugly place to be, I could feel your words as if they were screaming out of my own head. Well assuming this is not personal to you, then kudos for being so perceptive and if it is personal... I certainly hope you realize how worthy you are!

Sure sounds like something I could do with out. I once had it, but no more.

Good to write about it - and not easy when it's troubling - hope it helped.

I have been around that person, and it isn't pleasant. Well done on relating those feelings!

I feel like this from time to time because their is someone critical that i work with who is critical and it is hard sometimes for me to not take it personal. I realize that it is more about them than me. Thanks for reading and all the comments. All very much appreciated and loved.

I can relate to that. I hope this is not your personal feeling now.

Bold is the description I give. voted up and across the board. These things can be a millstone around your neck, I pray they are not.
