The Concept of Happiness
It’s too scary when I’m content,
All the pain is future spent,
Too confused at the concept of happiness,
It’s much more when you have less,
This distance has kept up the façade,
So easy- we had it made,
But the fire’s been burning low,
It’s always zero and zero below,
Wish I could say these feelings will grow,
But baby I hate it that I already know,
You can’t hold onto something that was never there,
Can’t breathe out love as though it were air,
When all you’re breathing in is the pretend,
Taking in all that you’ll have to defend,
That’s the scariest thing,
Doesn’t matter how much joy it could bring,
I claimed I fell fast and I fell hard,
Don’t want anyone to see how badly I’ve been scarred,
Today has been accomplished,
Pray that one battle has now been finished,
All the fear cuts deep as it hits,
Feelings will numb out all wits,
And another battle is sure to start,
This one will surely tear my heart apart,
Because somehow I’ve lost myself in the tangle of you,
All that I stand for and all that I knew…
