Contrasts of Thoughts
The Monkey Puzzle
Thoughts from home today.
The sun is shining through my window,
milky white light bouncing back off the wall.
The pale grey blue of the sky,
Is searching for the brightest blue behind the clouds.
Spring is in the air.
Magical colours dotted in the garden,
primulas in bright yellow, orange and white.
Variegated ivy in colours of subtle green with a silver whisper,
growing attached to a trunk of a dead ash tree.
Nature’s way of turning the tide.
The black wrought Iron Gate,
In stark contrast to the white walls of the house.
Curtained windows in colours of mink and red,
open the welcome to my home.
My heart, my soul and my life.
The huge monkey puzzle tree,
that stands so proud at the edge of the field.
Offers shelter to my horse in winter.
Timber so hot to burn on the open fire, foreboding
and yet clings to this land with needles so sharp.
Spring lambs frolic in the distance,
only two small fields away.
They play on their mothers' backs,
with no sight or care for the future.
just today, and the present time.
Daffodils peep through the wild hedge row,
Pure yellow pleasure in the thorns of the black thorn bush.
The buds of the wild hedge rose,
will flower pink in the summer.
An open eye for the beauty of summer to arrive.
Spring is in the air. Summer will shortly follow.
