Counting The Stars

Updated on January 9, 2013

Count the stars

A million bright jewels

Casting yellow beams

Specks against a velvet backdrop

The heavenly choir sings its song

To the guardian of the universe

The song pulses and throbs

The beat of a millennium

As I, only a tiny thought

One small fraction of the whole

Watch silently

Wishing to take part in the chorus

And sing the song of ages

Until that day comes

I will play the role of spectator

Awed by a brilliant masterpiece

Set before blue eyes.

Beautiful! I remember lying on a patio in San Antonio in the fifties, marvelling at the expanse of stars overhead, as I have continued to be fascinated by those myriad points of light in our skies.

I loved this. I love watching the stars at night when I have time. I think was a really descriptive and nice way of feeling.

Here the winter skies are really clear and it is easy to see the stars. My wife and I were outside last night talking about how beautiful they were and that it looked like you could reach out and touch them. Also, my life long friend Orion the Hunter was hanging out in the sky and it is always is good to see him. Your poem does an excellent job of explaining what we were seeing last night. Thank you.
