Cuts: A Surprisingly Horrifying Tale
Cuts by F. Paul Wilson
I’m in between books, so I decided to return to one of the various short story collections I've been working through off and on. So at random I went to my cinema horror themed anthology called The Cutting Room and read the next story in line. This time it was called Cuts by F. Paul Wilson.
The story follows a film mogul who wakes up in the middle of the night with lower leg pain. A nuisance he tries to ignore, except it keeps happening feeling worse each time, and begins to happen with both legs. He considers going to doctor but must go to breakfast with a hot shot director to close a deal. At the breakfast, he begins to notice something similar is happening to his hand. And then his left eye bursts. At that point realizes how serious this is. His limbs are literally being cut off by some unknown supernatural force and he must find a way to stop it before he is completely mutilated.
The good? This is a surprisingly fun and downright creepy tale. Why this is happening is intriguing and leads up to a very morbid ending that I did not expect to see coming.
The bad? How his limbs are being sawed off is pretty predictable. If you watch horror movies this is a no brainer. I won’t say it here just in case it’s a surprise to other people. But the methods used, the reason why, and grand finale makes up for all of that.
Overall, this is a fun little story. It’s creepy, gory, and shocking. All the right notes to hit with a scary story. I recommend you to seek this story out. This is very short, but it is well worth the read.
