Daddy's In D-15 ~ A 200-Word Short Story

Daddy's In D-15

Mommy said people used to be buried underground. That was before the dead started getting out of their graves and walking around. I had a dead teacher once, but I didn't learn much from her. She couldn't hold the chalk and I never could understand anything she said. She's also the reason I had to repeat the first grade.

When Daddy died, Mommy decided to rent an eternal freezer for him. She always said she didn't want him walking around trying to tell her what to do. She said she had enough of that when he was alive. That's okay, I heard that his jaw fell off when that car hit him anyway. The man I now call Uncle Joe was driving the car. He said the sun was in his eyes.

We visit Daddy once a week after Mommy goes to the supermarket. I guess she still likes making meals for Daddy because she's always bringing him frozen peas and carrots. Once, she even took him a turkey as big as me. I like to share my popsicles with him.

I like how Daddy is always in the same place. D-15, that's where we keep him! Goodnight Daddy!

I don't find it macabre at all, I thought it was funny. Your humor isn't lost on all.

Gypsy, it is a bit macabre, isn't it? Haha! Thanks for the comment!

LOL If this were reality for me I'd have nightmares for a month of Sundays. Let's say this is rather like a horror story than a humorous one but OK keep on trying. For the macabre it works pretty good.

I admire your effort to write a story solely based on a photo. I didn't mean to be cruel, but humor may not be your forte.

DFiduccia, thank you! I know we all view things differently and sometimes I'm guilty of thinking that everyone has the same weird mind I do! =)

Thanks for the vote up! I really appreciate it!

I guess if it’s not slapstick, some people won’t get it. As soon as I saw the photo and started reading, I understood your inspiration. It is clever and funny to allow us to perceive the world of a child from their POV — nice twist!

Bill Yovino, thanks for the comment. I'm all for constructive criticism, but I don't see how your comment fits in with that.

Michael, it's just fiction. When I saw the picture above, I thought it looked like a morgue. I never knew that they had freezers like that for rent. It just seemed weird to me. You're not dumb! We just think differently!

I'm with you, cleaner3. I'm sure she meant to be clever and funny, but this misses the mark by a mile.

lisa, I don't understand this at all. could you try to tell my dumb mind what is the meaning? Duh.
