Dance for me... A Poem

Updated on August 14, 2012

Dance for me, sweet maid

Your steps entrancing

Your arms open wide as you spin through my glade

The smile that curls your lips bewitching

Dance for me, before your illusion fades

Like the flowers in your hair

Your sparkling eyes a green jade

Carefree, unknowing of my stare

Dance for me, as my prison you invade

Your laughter sweetness rare

Watching you I am monster unmade

Caught by your dance, held strong in your snare

Dance for me, oh maiden fair

As you twirl and spin

Your very essence filling my air

The sun kissing your glowing skin

Dance for me, and light my despair

Your soul full of light untouched by sin

As you unknowingly beauty share

Reminding me of things gone and been

So dance for me, sweet maid

You leave my senses awake and reeling

As your merry steps leave my glade

Seared always in my mind, but not mine for the taking

So beautiful!! I saw some darkness here, am i wrong? Maybe i'm just expecting it. Whether it's dark or light, you always manage to lead the reader into a fantasy. Enjoyed.

nighthag – this is a well-written, very romantic and heart-touching poem. But my oh my, allowing the object of one’s desire(s) to bewitch us, knowing s/he is not ours for the taking, is self-torturing in the highest degree. We are so-so-so vulnerable while our senses are awake and reeling...

so very true, a sweet torture lies in wanting what we know we can never have, yet it can at times be so hard to resist what we know is beyond our reach. thank you so very much for raking the time to read this, I am thrilled that you liked it :)

It reminded me of a scene in Pocahontas. Very beautiful but the idea that something sinister is also going on eluded me. I suppose we see what we are familiar with and can only recognise what we ourselves have experienced. Anyway I loved the poem.

Absolutely mesmerizing! This was a magical read and not only could I see your illustration moving - not knowing if the picture was the illustration of the words, or the opposite - I could see a yarn of crystal clear water dancing around your words.

      Beautiful! Thank you.

SO nice to see you here again :)

one of the things that I love about poetry is how it is often open to so many different interpretations, with many meanings being able to fit into less then two hundred words. I am of course thrilled that you liked this, thank you for the visit

I was that man watching as my maiden danced for me, it uplifted my soul and then she faded away in my dreams and I awoke dismayed. Aw the dance, it leaves us swirling and lingers with us for awhile until we visit our dreamworld once more. Lovely poem, I enjoyed this scribe, Bravo. Awesome.

.....I will always dance for you ...and keep dancing too until my poor heart wears out ....and then you will bring me back to life ....with words like these and writing like your's ......I always go away from your hallowed hubspace .... inspired and 'pumped' .......

My senses are reeling. If I may digress for a moment: I've been reading hubs for too long at it's getting late and everything is starting to blur together. I was halfway through this poem and was enthralled by how light and confident the verses were -- I had to double-check who wrote it. "Ah" I thought "Nighthag, not surprising." You have the imagination and experience to drop something this smooth and elegant.

      Always a fan. Peace.
