Dark Love: The Rebirth Part III

Updated on April 16, 2017

Melanie slipped out of Raven’s arms and sat down at her desk. She opened her laptop and opened a tracer program to track the phone number.

“I hear you typing. It’ll come up a payphone in town.”

“Tonya please… let me bring you and Cassidy back home.”

“Melanie, I’m not going to argue. Please trust me; we’ll come back when it’s safe.”

“Please be careful.”

“I will… goodbye Mel…”

“Bye…”

She hung up and Melanie sighed and sat back in her chair, burying her head in her hands. Raven appeared kneeling beside her.

“She can’t come home, Raven…” Melanie whispered

“Did she have a vision?” Raven asked

Melanie nodded as he picked her up and lied her down on their bed.

“She said they’ll come back when it’s safe. If I brought them home now, they’d die. And Damien can’t know where they are. That explains why they didn’t stay in one place for long. But this farm seems safe for now."

“Melanie I know it’s tough. But sometimes you have to be patient and let things unfold on their own. You’ve rushed into things without thinking things through. Trust me and Tonya that this is for the best.”

“I do trust her. She’s seen the future and I don’t want to see her killed.”

She turned and laid her head on his chest. He fell back to sleep and she closed her eyes and let sleep take over. At the studio Rae had just finished paying bills when Gina appeared in the doorway with a smile on her face.

“There is a delivery for you up front. You have to come see it.” She said

Rae got up and followed her to the front desk. Her eyes lit up to see a dozen long stem roses in a crystal vase along with a teddy bear with black fur. There was a card being held by the bear’s paws, the vase rose into the air and Sam followed her, pretending to carry the vase. She came back into her office, the vase sat on her desk and she opened the card.

Rae-

We look forward to meeting you this weekend. And hope the roses brighten up your day and the rest of the week.

Best wishes

The Council of Armand

There was another card wrapped around the bear’s neck. She opened it and heat rose in her cheeks.

Rae- I hope that this bear brightens up your day. I hope to see you soon beautiful.

-Sebastian

“Did Sebastian send you the bear and roses?” Gina asked

She snapped back to reality and shook her head.

“He did.” She replied

“That man is a keeper. Did they come with instructions to care for them?” Sam asked

Rae found the instructions inside of the card the council had sent. She handed it to Gina.

“I’ll keep this with me. And then in a few days we’ll take care of them.”

“That’s fine. Maybe these will last long than the other ones.”

Gina laughed, “I think we’ve gotten better. We’ll be alright.”

Rae offered her a smile and Gina walked back up front. In the jazz club, Brie and Alison sat at their usual table, Marcus appeared behind Brie.

“Seems you ladies could use some help.” He commented

“We don’t need your…” Alison paused

Brie elbowed her in the stomach; she bent forward coughing and trying to catch her breath.

“Of course we need help. Damien has been slacking and preoccupied with personal issues.” Brie replied

“Kya’s not going accept any more failures. That bitch and the rest of her new allies need to be eliminated.”

“You don’t have to keep reminding us.” Alison muttered under her breath

“Do you have any information that could help us?” Brie asked

She batted her eyes and flashed her smiled.

“Those demons are having a masquerade ball this weekend. Its invitation only, but I was able to replicate them, getting us inside. That night we’ll capture the girl and take out anyone who gets in our way. You two will create a diversion, there will be a van waiting outside for us. Once we have the girl we’ll take her out of the city and kill her.”

“Brilliant idea. We can use a glamor to disguise ourselves and go in unrecognized.” Brie continued

Alison sighed conjuring a glass of white wine. She picked the glass up and drank the entire glass in one sip.

“We have nothing to lose except our lives. What the hell it’s been a good life.” She said

“Don’t be so negative. This idea is better than anything we’ve come up with.” Brie whispered

“Whatever…” She sighed

Thursday night, she stood in the center of a sea of open wooden crates filled with her collection. Some of her work rose out of the crate and she began arranging them on the North wall near the entrance of her room.

Recess lighting went through each room, and Andy’s skull lights were already hung lining the border of her room. She made sure each piece was even and then gently put them on the floor. A chill ran up her spine and slowly she turned to see Sebastian leaning against the entrance way.

“You’re late…”

“I’m sorry. I had to take care of some business at the club.” He replied

She smiled and then leaned up to kiss his lips. He hugged her tightly and then looked around the empty room. The white walls were bare and the crates covered the floor.

“How can I help?” He asked

“I need your opinion of two different arrangements of my work. Any feedback you give, I’ll appreciate it.”

“Okay, let’s see the first one.”

She stood still and he watched as her work rose out of the crates and leaned against the wall. He started to walk, but stopped halfway.

“Should I start with a specific photo?” He asked

“Start with the one right behind me by the door and go around.” She replied

He began to walk and looked at each photo.

“Rae these are beautiful.” He commented

“Thank you. Please keep walking.” she replied

He walked up next to her, kissing her cheek.

“This was cool. What was your other idea?” He asked

She waved her hands, crossing them and the photos rearranged themselves. He walked around again and came back next to her.

“So what do you think?” She asked

“The first arrangement; it felt like you were telling a story about your travels.” He replied

“Thank you.”

She waved her hands again and everything went back into the original order.

“I hope I’m not interrupting anything.” Sam asked

She walked up on the other side of Rae.

“Another pair of eyes huh?” She whispered in Rae’s ear

“Hey I’m open to more than just one opinion.” Rae giggled

Rae signaled with her head to start at right and Sam started to walk around. Sebastian came up behind her, wrapped his arms around her waist. She leaned back against him as Sam came over to them.

“Rae this is probably the best collection and I love how everything is arranged.” She said

“Great. Let’s get these hung up and covered.” Rae replied

“Where are the measuring tools?” Sam asked

A small red tool box floated into the room and landed in Sam’s hands. She opened it to find a hammer, nails, electronic leveler and a pencil. Sebastian took the leveler and began marking the wall making sure everything would be hung evenly.

Sam then went around and hammered a nail into the wall. Rae hung each picture by their wire. She also covered each one with a black cloth.

“Good job you guys.” Rae said

“Thanks.” They replied together

“I saw that Andy and RJ were already here.” Sam commented

“They were.” Rae paused; “Sam could you give me and Sebastian a few minutes alone?”

“Sure I’ll wait up front.”

She picked up the tool box and walked out of the room.

“What’s wrong?” He asked

“The council sent me roses.” She replied; “I’m nervous…”

He smiled, “Don’t be; it was just a small gift. You’ll be fine next weekend.”

“I also wanted to thank you for the bear.”

She hugged him and then leaned up to kiss him.

“You’re welcome.” He said

He took her by the hand and they walked up front. Sam and Sebastian walked out; Rae locked up and left the key in the mall box hanging by the door.

“Thanks for coming Sam.” Rae said

“It’s not a problem. At least you’re ready for Saturday.” Sam replied

“I hope that I can survive… that’ll make me happy.”

“You’ll be fine.” Sebastian whispered

“On that note, I’ll leave you two alone. I’ve got some work to take care of. See you tomorrow!”

She waved and then hailed a cab. As it took off, Rae looked up at Sebastian.

“Is it normal for the council to send flowers?” She asked

“They sent smalls gifts, when Charlotte and I got married. And after she, Cat, and Armand died.” He replied

They began walking down the street towards his car.

“I guess this a special occasion…”

He nodded and opened the door for her. In a blink of an eye he got in and started the car.

“Did you have dinner?” He asked

“No; I’ll order in Chinese food once we get back to my apartment.” She replied

They walked into her apartment; she went into the kitchen and took out a menu. She dialed and waited until someone picked up.

“Jade Palace, will this be take out or delivery?” A woman asked

“Delivery please. Can I have a pint of wonton soup and a number four combination please?” Rae replied

“Would you like white or fried rice with that?”

“White please.”

She gave the woman her address, hung up and walked into her bedroom. Sebastian was sitting on the edge of her bed. She sat down next to him; slowly they lied down, her leg draped over his.

“Are you going to stay and suffer the awful stench of mortal food?” She asked

He leaned his head down finding her neck and kissing it.

“I’ll take that as a yes.” She whispered

He hugged her tightly as she captured his lips with hers. She rolled onto her back, feeling the weight of his body on top of her. He lifted himself off of her and leaned on his elbow.

“Are you nervous about the show?” He asked

“No; but what I’m more nervous about is that night it’s a full moon. Please come with me, at least to keep me from tackling some random person to feed.”

“I’ll come…”

“Thank you…”

There was a knock on her door. Her wallet came out of her bag and flew into her hand. She walked towards the door. It opened to a young Asian American guy, holding her bag of food.

“Hello, total came to ten dollars.” He said

She handed him the exact amount and three dollars for tip. Walking into her kitchen, silverware came out of her draw, along with a plate from the cabinet above. It landed on the table, as the food floated out of the bag and onto the table.

Sebastian walked in as she sat down to eat. He sat down across from her as she opened the pint container of soup.

“The vultures trailed me to the framing place and also parked themselves outside my studio.” She commented

“That must have been interesting.” He replied

She nodded and felt heat rising in her cheeks. He noticed and arched an eyebrow and smiled.

“Usually I tune out their questions; Gina had already gotten into the car, before I got in, one question made me stop. Someone asked if you and I were dating. I didn’t say anything, but something in the back of my mind, tells me it’s going to come out sooner or later.”

He thought for a few minutes. She always made sure to keep her personal life out of the tabloids. Those vultures could exaggerate the truth, like clay and mold it into a brand new story. He managed to avoid them, except for parties held at the club.

“It doesn’t have to come out. We both like to have some privacy, so let’s keep it that way.”

She smiled and breathed a sigh of relief and continued to eat. After she finished, all the containers were washed and put into the recycling bin. She washed her dish and silverware; he came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. A towel unfolded and everything she washed was laid out to dry. She leaned back against him, her hands rubbing up and down his muscular arms.

He picked her up, her hands wrapped around his neck and walked back to her bed. Slowly he sat down; she leaned in and pressed her lips against his. He lied back and she straddled him, leaning down and kissing him more passionately. She felt his lips begin to travel along her jaw and lower to her neck. His fangs grew and gently scrapped against her skin, her hands slowly lifted his t-shirt.

She pulled it off and tossed it behind her. Slowly he pinned her arms over her head and they hung off her bed. His lips returned to her neck, one hand snaked under her shirt, massaging her breast. She moaned and her fingers curled.

Slowly he sat up, pulling her with him. With her arms still raise he unzipped her hoodie and slipped off her t-shirt. He leaned back in smelling the scent of sweet perfume and unhooked her bra. His lips began to suck on her right breast, her hand held his head and pulled his hair. A low growl rumbled, she hissed as his hand unbuttoned her jeans.

His fingers slowly entered her, she moaned, grinding against his hand with every thrust. He lied her down, slipping off her panties and jeans. She sat up and used her powers to lay him down and straddled his stomach. Her lips found his, her hands massaged his chest. They left his and began placing kisses on his chest, making the trail down. She unbuttoned his jeans, used her powers, pulling them off; something flew into her hand.

She took his hard member into her mouth, he moaned, his hand brushed her hair away from her face. His head leaned back; fangs grew as she slipped the condom on. He sat up and flipped her onto her back and entered her. Her legs wrapped around his waist, arms pulled him close to her hot and sweaty body. They got into a rhythm and climaxed together. He rolled onto his back and she leaned her head upon his chest.

There was silence and she didn’t mind. He squeezed her tightly, running his fingers through her hair.

She was definitely unique, funny, and smart. The title of celebrity really didn’t matter to her, nor did the parties or even the designer items sent. It didn’t matter that she was Charlotte’s reincarnation, he was attracted to her from the first dance they shared at the club. He didn’t think he’d find love again. For years he tried to keep himself occupied, but it didn’t take away the pain of missing her. Rae wasn’t replacing her, but made him feel whole again. He kissed the top of her head, smelling her.

“What was that for?” She asked

He chuckled, “Just because Rae…”

She sighed letting it go. He was definitely different in a good way. His eyes looked beyond and saw her as a person and nothing else. And that’s what she was, not some big celebrity who was constantly hounded by the paparazzi. She didn’t buy a second home or expensive cars and that’s what made her stand out. And that was fine with her.

Slowly he sat up and got out of bed. He leaned on his elbow as she walked into her closet.

“Get back into bed…” He called

She came back out wearing a pair of black sweatpants and dark pink t-shirt.

“I don’t know about you. But I prefer to sleep clothed.” She said

He laughed, “Doesn’t matter to me. Long as you get that cute ass back into bed.”

She lied down beside him, pressing her body against his side. Her leg wrapped around him, as he leaned in and kissed her lips. Her laptop lifted off her desk and landed at the foot of the bed. It opened and she typed in her password to unlock it. The DVD/CD drive opened and she smiled seeing it was still there.

Her hand pushed the drive close and the movie started. Sebastian propped up her pillows as the menu for Tarantino’s ‘Hateful Eight’ appeared on the screen. She clicked play and joined him.

XI

Saturday night she was sitting on her bed, wet hair wrapped in a towel and wearing her purple bathrobe. Sunlight was shined through her window, but slowly began to fade. Slowly she turned to see the moon rising into the black sky. She got up and walked towards the window, stepping into the white light.

Her skin turned slightly pale, she saw a flash of gold in front of her eyes. Slowly she stepped back, her towel unwrapped itself from her head and flew into the bathroom, hanging itself on a hook near the shower.

Taking one step and she was in the bathroom, at her vanity. Her hair dryer came out from the cabinet below, plugged itself in and started. Taking it into her hand she dried her hair and braided it. As she came into her bedroom, she looked down at her hand, seeing it was pale. She didn’t remember when it happened, but her heart started pounding.

She started pacing back and forth. Her nervousness was getting the best of her.

There was a knock at her door, she sensed it was Sebastian. She went and opened the door, he was dressed in dark blue jeans, brown cowboy boots, matching leather jacket with a black t-shirt underneath.

“Wow you look handsome.” She said

“Thanks; you look beautiful.” He replied

She smiled, “I’m glad you’re here. I’m kind of freaking out right now.”

“Go get ready…”

The door shut behind him as she went into her bedroom. She took the second dress she bought at ‘Wednesday’s Closet’ and put it on. A pair of lace up heeled boots appeared next to her. He sat down on her leather chair in the living room. She appeared in the entrance way, his eyes lit up.

“You look gorgeous.” He said

“Thank you. Did you bring a bottle of blood? I’m starving all of a sudden.” She replied

“It’s in the car.”

A small leather jacket flew into her hand, with black fur on the cuffs and collar. He got up and helped put it on. They left, the door locked behind them. Stepping off the elevator, she saw Phil standing outside with the door opened to his limousine.

“Good evening Rae congratulations on the opening.” Phil began

“Thank you so much Phil.” Rae replied

She got in and her eyes lit up to see Melanie and Raven, Gina, and Sam.

“Surprise!” Sam and Gina cheered

“This is a surprise. Let me guess you arranged all this.” Rae said

Sebastian smiled and handed her the bottle of blood. The car door shut and then pulled away from her apartment. She began drinking and then looked over at Melanie and Raven.

“We’re your security guards for the evening.” Melanie explained

“Wow secret service, friends, I’m starting to accumulate an entourage.” Rae commented

Everyone laughed and she continued to drink.

“What is that?” Sam asked

“It’s a special drink, I made for Rae. It helps calm the nerves.” Melanie replied

“Cool. I think she’d drink anything to stay calm.”

Rae rolled her eyes. She began to think what needed to be done once they arrived at Vega Hall. A few reporters wanted to meet before the doors opened for photos and a small interview. After the doors opened they’d try to enjoy the evening. She finished her drink and handed the empty bottle to Sebastian, who tossed it in a white plastic shopping bag.

“How do you feel?” He asked

“Much better; I hope that I can last the rest of the night.” She replied

Her eyes turned red for a second, the blood was running throughout her body. She was thankful Gina and Sam didn’t notice. The car came to a stop, Phil opened the door and everyone got out. Vega Hall used to be a warehouse, the red brick exterior and large windows hadn’t changed. Its interior was redone. They walked in through a side entrance to the hall and into a large blue room with dark green leather couches. Andrea and RJ were seated on one. Both stood up seeing Rae and her friends.

“Hey Rae are you ready?” Andrea asked

“Hey Andy and RJ; I’m ready as I’ll ever be.” Rae replied

“Great. We have some time before photos and the interview.”

Rae turned to her friends and smiled. And took off her jacket.

“Could you all give us a couple of minutes?” She asked

They nodded and walked out of the room. Rae turned to RJ and Andrea with a smile. Outside of the hall Brie and Alison appeared standing on the roof.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” Alison asked

“Yeah; we have enough potions to take out the Campbell family. It’ll last long enough to grab that royal wannabe. “Brie replied

They flashed down and got in line. Inside there was a knock at the door, a woman in her early fifties. She was tall, long black hair that was tied into a ponytail, and brown eyes.

“Rae, Andy, and RJ welcome back. There are reporters outside who would like a few minutes before the doors open.” She began

“Thanks Mrs. Vega. We’ll be right out.” Rae replied

They walked out into the white hallway and to the end. There was a small group of young reporters, holding digital recorders and others with cameras. Light wood floor ran throughout, their heels ‘clacked, clacked, clacked’ as they met the small crowd.

“Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for coming tonight, this certainly is a special night.” Andrea began

“We’ll be happy to answer any questions you have. But please note we don’t have a lot of time, we’ll be around to take questions during the event.” Rae added

“So any questions?” RJ asked

Hands rose in the air and Rae pointed to a young girl standing in the back.

“Ms. Turner how does it feel to be working with the Campbells?” She asked

“It feels exciting. We had worked together before, but tonight is the first we’ve unveiled three collections.” Rae replied

Andrea picked on a young man in standing in the front row.

“RJ how does it feel to be debuting tonight with your sister and your favorite photographer?” He asked

“It’s definitely outside of my comfort zone. But Andy pushed me to show my work, it’s more of a hobby. My delivery service is my main focus.” RJ replied

“Andy!”

Andy picked on a man dressed in black blazer.

“Andy and RJ will your brother AJ be joining the family tonight to celebrate this occasion? Rumors say he’s become the black sheep of the family.”

Andrea and RJ whispered exchanged concerned looks and then whispered to each other. Then they turned back to the small crowd.

“The rumors of our brother being the black sheep, isn’t true. Since moving out after college, he’s been traveling the world.”

Rae noticed tears forming in Andrea’s eyes, she tried holding them back. She walked off and back into the room where they had left their belongings. Rae followed her, seeing her blowing her nose.

“I bet you hate those vultures just as much as I do.” Rae commented

“Sometimes; when it comes to the subject of my older brother, then it’s tough to keep it together.” Andrea replied

“I guess his travels have taken him out of the country?”

She nodded and grabbed another tissue from her purse. Slowly she wiped beneath her eyes and tossed the tissues into a wastepaper basket.

“His job has him going all over. It sucks, but when he does come home we make the most of each day.”

“I have a feeling he’ll be here.”

RJ appeared in the entrance way, both girls turned to see him. He wore black shoes, black pants, and black buttoned shirt with white pinstripes.

“They’re going to be opening the doors. We’d better get out there.” He said

They nodded and followed him out. She walked through to her room; all of her photos were uncovered. She heard people walking in and soon her room was filled. Sebastian appeared beside her, putting his arm around her waist.

Raven and Melanie were walking around blending in with the crowd. A reporter, Rae had recognized him from earlier, walked up to her and Sebastian.

“Hello Ms. Turner and Mr. Masters. I’m Chester King from Art World Magazine. Do you have a few minutes to spare?” He asked

“Of course.” Rae replied

He took out a recorder from his back pants pocket. His finger pressed ‘Record’.

“What was your inspiration for this collection?”

“I wanted to find historical places. Some that native New Yorkers would suggest and some that weren’t well-known and found say in a Weird New York Magazine. I like to take my own path to find what inspires me.” Rea replied

“That’s very refreshing to here. And it looks so far people are admiring your work along with your co-hosts. Anyway thank you for your time. It was a pleasure meeting you and you too Mr. Masters.”

They all shook hands and he walked into Andrea’s room. Sam and Gina walked up to them.

“You should go see their work Rae. Especially RJ, he’s got some talent.” Sam said

“Alright, come on Sebastian.” Rea replied

She took him by the hand and they walked into RJ’s room. They started at the beginning and worked their way around.

“He’s really good.” Rae commented

“Isn’t his family geniuses?” Sebastian asked

“They’re very talented. Look they’re over there talking with Andy.”

Andrea stood with a group of brunettes, a blonde, and a dark redhead. She spotted Rae and signaled for her to come over. They walked over, Andrea turned to them with a smile. She wore purple cocktail dress with black flats. Her blond hair had blue highlights.

“Rae, looks like the show is a success. Oh my god you’re Sebastian Masters, it’s nice to meet you. I enjoy your club when I’m not working.” Andrea said

“It does.” Rae replied

“It’s a pleasure to meet you Ms. Campbell.” Sebastian added

“You too and please call me Andy.”

“Okay Andy. Is this your family?” Sebastian replied

“Yes, Rae, Sebastian these are my parents Michelle and Adam Campbell. And this is my older sister Lizzie, and RJ’s twin sister Jade. Guys these are Rae Turner and Sebastian Masters.” Andrea continued

She pointed to a couple, the blonde and brunette. He was Sebastian’s height, blond hair tied back into a ponytail. She was a little shorter, long wavy brown hair and brown eyes. Jade looked a little like RJ, especially the height, face, and eyes. Lizzie looked like her mother, dirty blond hair and blue eyes. They all turned hearing a commotion from outside. Andy’s eyes lit up to see her brother, AJ walking in.

“It’s nice to meet you.” Rae said

“AJ!” Andrea screamed

He stood at least 6’0, buzzed cut sides and blond hair slicked back. A pair of brown eyes sat behind a pair of rimless glasses. He wore a pair of brown shoes, dark blue jeans, and long sleeved blue buttoned down shirt.

“Surprised you were able to take time out of your busy schedule to join us.” Jade commented

“It’s nice to see you too sis.” AJ replied

Jade walked up and hugged him tightly. He hugged the rest of the family and turned to Rae and Sebastian.

“Rae Turner; it’s finally nice to meet you. RJ talks about you all the time.”

“Nice to meet you too AJ.”

They shook hands with each other, Rae felt someone close by.

“RJ is a huge fan.” Jade replied

“He’s very talented.” Rae continued

“He might be tempted to show again, now that he’s met you.” Michelle chimed in

“Guess we’ll see. Anyway it was nice meeting you; we’re going to look at the rest of his work and yours Andy.” Rae explained

“Oh go enjoy and we’ll be in to see yours too.” Adam said

She took Sebastian by the hand.

“Oww...What’s wrong?” He asked

“Sorry I’m still getting used to the super strength. I smell magic. You guys were right it smells like rotten eggs.” She whispered

He pulled her close to him and they walked back to her exhibit. Melanie and Raven were standing by the entrance.

“Do you smell it?” Melanie asked

“Magic…” Sebastian replied

“We should slowly make our way out. This way we don’t cause a panic.” Raven suggested

“Good idea.” Rae added

“Rae there you are.” Sam called

She walked up to her with a huge grin on her face.

“Shit...” Rae muttered under breath; “What’s up Sam?”

“Gina and I have a surprise for you at the studio.” She began

“Cool. I was about ready to leave anyway. Where is Gina?”

“She went ahead to the studio.”

She looked up at Sebastian and he nodded to the others.

“Raven, call Phil and let him know we’re ready.” Sebastian said

They began walking towards the entrance. Suddenly a woman screamed and smoke poured into the room. “Fire!” someone yelled and people started running toward the back door. Brie and Alison stood in Andrea’s room, both had conjured energy balls.

“These two again?” Melanie groaned

“Don’t they ever give up?” Rae asked

“Doesn’t look like it.” Sebastian replied

The hall had emptied out, except for Rae and the others. Andrea was joined by Lizzie and AJ.

“The famous Campbell witches. It’s a shame you used your magic for personal gain.” Alison commented

“Magic for personal gain; that’s really original… No one can come up with new material these days.” Lizzie replied

“Get out of our way; we’re not here to fight you.” Brie continued

“You crashed our show and now it’s personal.” Andrea snapped back

She conjured a fireball which split into two.

“They’re witches…” Rae thought to herself

She stepped out from behind Sebastian and took one step to appear behind Brie and Alison.

Tapping them both on the shoulder, she threw two punches, they staggered back. Brie went to throw a punch; Rae grabbed her arm and kicked her in the stomach.

“What the hell is she doing?” Raven asked

Alison threw one of her potions towards the Campbells and her friends. Her eyes widened and it landed at Alison’s feet. Smoke filled the room. Sebastian came up beside her along with Raven and Melanie. Rae stood still hearing the doors open, the smoke began to clear.

“This fight doesn’t concern you. You should get out of here!” Melanie shouted

“It sure as hell does when two witches attack at our show!” Andrea snapped back

“Could we possibly stop arguing and finish these two bitches off?” Rae interrupted

They grouped together ready to fight, Brie and Alison stood up. Sebastian noticed Rae was growling and he did a double take seeing she had grown fangs.

“Sebastian, get her out of here! We can handle these two.” Melanie shouted

Sebastian nodded and took her hand into his. Before they ran, Rae waved her hand causing Brie and Alison to fly into the air their heads hitting the ceiling. She and Sebastian ran outside.

“You didn’t think it would be that easy did you loves?” A voice asked

Damien walked out from the side of the building aiming a gun at Rae.

“I wouldn’t think of moving. This gun is loaded with bullets filled with light.” He paused; “Now Rae I suggest you come with me. Or would you like to witness your boyfriend’s quick and painful demise?”

“I’m not going anywhere with you.” Rae snapped back

“So quick to answer.” He laughed “It’s a shame, but also beautiful. One dies and the other lives on, but with guilt and regret.”

He took the safety off the gun and his finger wrapped around the trigger. Suddenly it flew out of his hands and was aimed at him. His eyes widened as Rae walked forward.

“It’s not that I don’t care. But I don’t go down without a fight.” Rae paused

There was a loud bang and an explosion causing the windows and doors of the hall to break. Sebastian tackled Rae to the ground; the gun fell to the ground. Raven and Melanie ran out, with Brie, Alison, and the Campbell family behind them.

Her ears were ringing, but she could make out shouting and saw blasts of power going back and forth. Her eyes lit up to see Damien’s gun only a few feet away, she opened her hand and caught it. A memory flashed before her eyes, she saw the gun being aimed at Catherine, Armand, and then Charlotte. She snapped back to reality, seeing Raven and Melanie standing in front of her. Quickly she got to her feet, Damien had disappeared. Sebastian came up behind her.

“Rae… bloody hell get out of here!” Melanie shouted

“No… now it’s personal...” Rae replied

Rae started running and tackled Brie to the ground. They rolled on the street, Rae pinned her. She threw a punch, knocking her out.

“That’s for kidnapping me.”

XII

Slowly she rose up and saw Alison fighting with Andrea. She immediately ran and knocked the young witch off her feet. As she came around, Alison jumped to her feet and went to throw a punch, Rae blocked it. She kneed her in the gut and then in the head. She fell back, covered in blood and bruises, Rae stood over her, but suddenly she and Brie disappeared.

“Everyone alright?” Andrea asked

She, AJ, and Lizzie walked up to them.

“We’re fine. Anyone hurt?” Sebastian replied

“No; thank god.” Andrea said

“Why were they after you Rae?” AJ asked

“It’s a long story.” Rae paused; “Where’s Sam?”

Emergency vehicles pulled up along with police cars. She looked around seeing the crowd of people walking up from the back of the building. She spotted Sam limping, her face and body covered with bruises. Her dark green plaid dress was torn and covered with smoke and blood. She started to fall; Rae caught her and leaned her up against the building.

“Sam!” She screamed

“I’ll live. I’m just banged up something fierce.” Sam replied in a hoarse voice

Two EMTs walked over to Sam, Rae back away to let them work. Sebastian came up beside her.

“You want to ride with her to the hospital?” He asked

“I do. Follow us and once she’s settled we’ll leave.” Rae replied

Sam was placed onto a gurney; Rae followed her into the back of the ambulance. She took Sam’s hand into hers.

“You didn’t have to come with me.” Sam whispered

“You would’ve done the same for me.” Rae replied

She offered her a half smile. Rae leaned back feeling her blood boiling.

“Are you alright miss?” A young woman EMT asked

“Yeah… adrenaline must be running high.” Rae replied

She felt so angry that her best friend got caught in the middle of this attack. They pulled into the Emergency entrance to St. Mary’s Hospital. Doctors and nurses surrounded Sam as Rae followed them through the automatic sliding doors. The white lights shined brightly, as they brought Sam into a room. She sat down in a green upholstered chair; her head leaned against the white walls.

Sebastian appeared beside her.

“Want some company?” He asked

“Thank you. Where’s everyone else?” Rae replied

“The Campbells left for home. I sent the others to Dark Palace. We’ll meet up with them there.”

“Rae Turner for Samantha Price?” A male voice called

Rae raised her hand as a man in his early thirties, short blond hair and blue eyes; dressed in green scrubs and white sneakers walked over to them.

“I’m Dr. Stone; Samantha is stable, we want to keep her for observation. She should be able to go home in a couple days. It’s horrible what happened tonight.” He explained

“It is. At least there weren’t that many people injured. Could I ask a favor Dr. Stone?” Rae replied

“Of course Ms. Turner.”

“Please make sure she gets a private room. She doesn’t need a media circus.”

“That won’t be a problem. Funny Sam had requested that before I came out here to talk to you. I hate to ask, but one of the EMT noticed you were a little pale on the ride over. How are you feeling now?”

“I’m fine really.”

“She just needs some rest doctor. Her adrenaline is running.” Sebastian commented

“Well, if you don’t feel better by tomorrow. I would make an appointment with your primary care physician.” Dr. Stone continued

“Anyway I have other patients to check on. Will you be taking Sam home?”

Rae nodded, “I will be back here when she’s cleared.”

“Thanks doc.” Sebastian added

Dr. Stone walked back toward the Emergency room, Rae stood up, and Sebastian followed. They walked out and he put his jacket around her. She reached into her dress, pulling out Damien’s gun.

“Shit Rae. Is it loaded?” He asked

“No. But I saw this gun was used to kill Cat, Armand, and Charlotte. I didn’t see who shot them, but whoever it was, was a good shot.” She replied

She put it into his jacket pocket and they started running for Dark Palace. Melanie sat at the desk, the light from the laptop screen made her pale skin glow. Raven looked down over the club; he was impressed Abby had things under control. Sebastian and Rae walked in, Melanie’s eyes lit up. Within a blink of an eye she was hugging Rae.

“I’m sorry for snapping at you.” She whispered

“Don’t worry you were only looking out for me.” Rae replied

Melanie stepped back as Rae took out the gun from Sebastian’s coat pocket.

“Damien left this behind. This is what killed your Aunt, Uncle, and Cousin.” Rae paused; “I didn’t see who it was. But I doubt we’d find any fingerprints on it. Besides mine and Damien’s.”

“It looks like it had an upgrade.” Raven said

“Part of the barrel has been sawed off.” Melanie added

“So what do we do now?” Rae asked

“The story of the explosion has already hit the news.” Sebastian commented

“Police are probably going to interview the Campbell family and Sam.” Rae added

“The Campbells are powerful witches and wizards. Knowing them they’ll probably use magic to cover up what happened.”

Rae sat down on the couch and put her feet up.

“So maybe this won’t be so bad.” She muttered

“If they come to interview us, we just tell them what we saw.” Raven said

Rae sat up, “Do you hear that?”

She got up and walked toward the window overlooking the street. People were leaving, but she ran out of the office and up to the roof. They gasped seeing her fly past the window, she landed on her feet. Gina was standing outside the club.

“Gina what are you doing here?” Rae asked

“Rae! Oh thank god you’re okay!” Gina shouted

She hugged Rae. Her eyes widened and she stepped back looking at her with a shocked expression.

“Damn girl you cold as ice.” She gasped

“My adrenaline is still running. Must be keeping me warm.” Rae replied

“I came looking for you. Had a feeling you’d be here with Sebastian. Is Sam okay? She called me from the hospital.”

“She’ll be alright. Doctor wanted to keep her overnight for observation. I’m picking her up in a couple of days.”

“Thank god. I’m gonna catch a cab and go home. Call me if you need anything.”

Rea gave her a hug and Gina walked up the street and hailed a cab. She went back inside and upstairs to the office.

“Have a nice flight?” Melanie asked

“That was awesome. Gina was looking for me; she was concerned about me and Sam.” Rae replied

Melanie sighed, “Well I guess there’s nothing else to do until the police come around.”

“Rae was any of your work saved?” Raven asked

There wasn’t any answer; Sebastian looked over at the couch to see her collapsed beside it.

“Oh shit. Rae!” He shouted

Melanie and Raven appeared on the other side of her. She knelt down and picked up her wrist feeling for a pulse.

“She has a pulse its weak.” Melanie whispered

He picked her up and lied her down on the couch. Melanie ran out of the room. Her eyes twitched and they slowly opened.

“What happened?” She asked

“You fainted.” Sebastian replied

Melanie came back with a bottle of blood. It flew into Rae’s hand and she began drinking. She finished the bottle and placed it on the coffee table.

“How are feeling?” Sebastian asked

“Much better…” She replied in a whisper

“You really shouldn’t go long without feeding.” Melanie muttered under her breath

Sebastian glared at her; she rolled her eyes and sat down beside Rae.

“I know that I should be more careful.” Rae sighed “I’m sorry for scaring you guys.”

“Don’t ever do that again.” Melanie snapped

She hugged Rae tightly.

“Wow…” Rae said

“Sorry…” Melanie replied

There was a knock on the door, Phil walked in. He was dressed in a long sleeved gray thermal shirt, blue jeans and black ‘Timberland’ boots.

“Am I interrupting anything?” He asked

“No. What’s up?” Melanie asked

“I tracked Tonya to an abandoned farm up in the Catskills. Tried to look inside the barn, but something pushed me back. I’m guessing it was Tonya stopping anyone from getting to close.” He explained

“Did you see anyone come or go?” Raven asked

“Just Cassidy, she would leave and walk up to a small family owned market and get food.” Phil replied

“I need to get up there. And bring them home.” Melanie

“It’ll have to wait until after the council meeting next weekend.” Sebastian commented

Melanie growled, “I know that. She better not move.”

“And on that note, I’m going to head home. Anyone need a ride anywhere?” Phil interrupted

“Yes!” Sebastian and Rae said together

They followed Phil out of the office and downstairs. Sebastian opened the car door and she got in. Phil started the car and pulled away from the club. When they pulled up to the cottage, an old brown ‘Ford Crown Victoria’ was parked outside. Rae recognized officer Helms. She was with a young man, in his early thirties. He was her height, short brown hair with gray highlights, green eyes; round face and lean build.

“Ms. Turner. Mr. Masters I guess we’re not disturbing you. Would you mind answering a few questions?” Officer Helms asked

“Please come in.” Sebastian suggested

They led the officers inside, Rae turned on the lights and everyone sat down on the couches.

“I’m sorry this is my partner, Detective Sam Warner. Sam these are Rae Turner and Sebastian Masters.” Helms continued

“It’s nice to meet you both.” Warner said

Rae and Sebastian smiled.

“We’re so sorry you lost your work this evening. Did you notice anything out of the ordinary prior to the exhibit opening?” Helms continued

“No; I arrived with Mr. Masters, Sam Price, Gina Baker, Melanie and Raven.” Rae replied

“Melanie and Raven?” Detective Warner asked

“Melanie Bloom and Raven Luna.” Sebastian chimed in

Both detectives wrote down the full names.

“Before the explosion what happened?” Detective Warner asked

“We were going to leave. Ms. Baker and Price wanted to surprise me at the studio. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow what it was supposed to be.” Rae replied

“Then we heard a woman scream and people rushing out the back entrance. We went out the front right before the building caught on fire.” Sebastian added

“You all got lucky getting out when you did. Well so far all your stories check out. Do you know where we can find Mr. Luna and Ms. Bloom?” Detective Helms asked

“They’re at Dark Palace, Melanie is a co-owner.” Sebastian replied

“Well we won’t take up any more of your time. Thank you and if you think of anything don’t hesitate to call us.”

She handed them her business card and they let themselves out. Rae sighed and got up.

“That was close.” She whispered

“It was. Are you sure you’re feeling better?”

She laughed, “I’m fine. I was so caught up about Sam that I didn’t realize I was hungry.”

He sighed and watched the zipper of her dress came down, showing a black bra underneath. She looked over her shoulder, pushing the strap down. He stood up, threw her over his shoulder and carried her upstairs.

By dawn, her eyes shot open and she ran into the bathroom. Thankfully she made it to the toilet and threw up. Leaning back she sat on the cold tiled floor, clutching her stomach.

“Rae… what’s wrong?” Sebastian asked

“I...I guess... the last bottle of blood disagreed with my stomach.” She whispered

He walked in and kneeled down beside her. She felt his hand brush back a strand of hair away from her face. He got up and filled a plastic cup with water and brought it over to her. She smiled and began to drink.

“Thank you.”

“Rae do you think you’re…”

She held her hand up stopping him from finishing his question.

“No; I’ve been on the pill since I was fifteen, for medical reasons. Besides I thought a vampire couldn’t…”

“Only once… but we’ve been careful.”

She slowly got to her feet, and he stayed closed to her as they walked back to the bedroom. Lying back down she started to feel better as she drifted back to sleep. His arms wrapped around her, gently pulling her close to him.

A few hours later, she woke up hearing her phone ringing. She sighed in relief to see it was noon and tapped the ‘Answer’ button.

“Hello…”

“Hey Rae its Gina.”

“What’s up?”

“I brought Sam some things from her apartment. She seemed to be resting well. And thankfully no media has gotten near her room.”

“Sounds great. I’ll probably head over there later today to check on her.”

“Good; hopefully she'll be a little more awake to talk. She kept going in and out of sleep.”

“Well, I’ll see you tomorrow. And I’m looking forward to my surprise.”

Gina laughed “Sam and me know you’ll like it. It’s in your office.”

“I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“See you tomorrow boss lady…”

She got up and walked down to the bathroom. Starting the shower, the warm water began to massage her head. She stood there for a few minutes, the exhibit was one hurdle, but that ended in destruction. And now the next hurdle was meeting with the Council of Armand. Would the Hunters attack again? Or would it go smoothly and then be able to figure out how to end this war. Thoughts flooded her mind, but then she took a deep breath in and let it out slowly.

One way or another everything was going to work out. She had to remain somewhat optimistic. She finished showering and then changed into a pair of black leggings, large pullover hoodie, and ‘Bear Paw’ boots. After tying her hair into a ponytail, she finished and left walking towards the mansion.

She walked inside, it was eerily quiet. Walking down the hall she went into a study, there was dark maple furniture and a brown upholstered couch leaning against the mocha colored wall. Melanie was sitting at the desk staring at a laptop screen.

“Rae what are you doing here?” She asked

“I didn’t think anyone would be awake.” Rae replied

“I couldn’t sleep.”

She sat down on the couch. Melanie continued typing.

“You’re having doubts aren’t you?”

Rae sighed; Melanie went for the knockout punch. She sighed and stared up at the white ceiling.

“They’ve attacked me during a show and attacked my best friend. And only last night I learned that witches exist.” She paused; “I am doubting myself. What can a mere mortal do?”

“Rae you can’t be hard on yourself. Casualties of battle are to be expected, especially at public events. Luckily those people were smart enough to get out. You’ve showed a lot of guts, for being a mortal who turns immortal during a full moon.”

“I guess; and thanks for the vote of confidence.”

She appeared sitting next to her, wearing black sweatpants and long gray t-shirt.

“Believe me; we’ve had doubt. When Charlotte was born, my Grandmother turned Cat to save her and the umbilical cord hadn’t been cut. Charlotte became the first half mortal, half immortal; from what we knew, no half-breed would live past their eighteenth birthday. To our surprise she lived. The point is, don’t doubt yourself. Who knows you might surprise us, just like my cousin did.”

“Thanks Mel…”

“Don’t get all mushy on me.”

Rae laughed, “What were you doing?”

“Checking on our safe houses. Lately we’ve sent out trackers to patrol the street at night, to give us a heads up on an attack.”

“That’s great.”

“How’s your friend Sam?”

“She’s good; doctor wanted to keep her for observation. She should be able to go home in a couple of days.”

“Great. Would you want a guard posted at her apartment building?”

Rae sighed “If it keeps the media away. I don’t think it would hurt.”

“Not a problem. I’ll give someone a call later tonight.”

There was a knock on the door. Faith walked in wearing a plain purple t-shirt dress.

“Hello Rae; Melanie did you see the news?” She asked

“No.” Both girls replied

She walked in and turned on the T.V hanging across from them. The ABC logo appeared in the bottom right-hand corner and there was a reporter live outside the studio.

“We go to Tim Fleischer outside of Vega Hall; Tim…”

The camera had cut to the older gentleman standing outside of what was left of Vega Hall.

“It has been a very horrific evening here at Vega Hall. Last night was the premier of three very talented artists Andy and RJ Campbell and Rae Turner. Until an explosion occurred around midnight, there weren’t many injured, except for Turner's friend and business partner Samantha Price. Price suffered some injuries and was taken to a hospital nearby.”

It cut to him interviewing witnesses and also Mrs. Vega. Faith muted the sound and turned to the girls.

“I’m glad they don’t know which hospital Sam’s in.” Rae commented

“I never understood why the media have to be up in a celebrity’s personal life.” Faith continued

“Your guess is as good as mine.” Rae sighed

“Well we all stuck to our stories when we spoke to the two officers. We have nothing to worry about.”

It cut back to Tim and Faith turned the volume up.

“Police are still conducting an investigation as to what caused the explosion. Now we just wait for answers. Reporting live from Vega Hall, I’m Tim Fleischer, Channel Seven Eyewitness News. Back to you in the studio.” He continued

Faith turned off the television.

“I’m glad you all are alright. How is your friend Rae?” Faith asked

“She got banged up pretty bad. But she’ll be alright.” Rae replied

“I’m glad.”

Tuesday morning, her phone went off and she walked downstairs to see Phil waiting. She walked out to feel the air was stiff and the sunlight felt warm. Zipping up her heavy sweatshirt, she got into the car and Phil lowered the partition.

“Hello Rae. Where are we going?” He said

“Hey Phil; Saint Mary’s Hospital to pick up my friend Sam and take her home.” Rae replied

“Is she alright?”

“She got caught in the explosion Saturday night. No major injuries, but the doctor wanted to keep her there for observation. I’m just glad she’s okay.”

“That’s terrible. I’m glad she’s ok.”

Rae smiled and stared out the window. Seeing her best friend hurt that night, it scared her, but she hated when innocent people got caught in the middle of fight they didn’t involve them. She couldn’t imagine what Melanie, Tonya, and the rest of the family went through back in London. Always looking over their shoulders and being careful who they hunted.

Secretly she was relieved that she hadn’t been turned and only experienced what it was like on the full moon. She began to think about Sebastian, being with him felt right. He was funny, caring, and honest. “He’s a keeper.” She thought to herself. Heat rose in her cheeks again as the car stopped in front of the hospital.

She got out and walked inside to the front desk. A young girl in pink scrubs, black hair tied back into a ponytail. Her brown eyes met Rae’s and a smile formed on her round face.

“Hello, I’m Rae Turner. I’m here to pick up Samantha Price.” Rae said

“Hello Ms. Turner, I’m Alexandra. We spoke earlier; a nurse should be bring her down shortly. The doctor is giving her one bottle each of muscle relaxers and Naproxen. In case she feels uncomfortable. He also recommended that she take it easy for a couple of days, nothing too strenuous. And if she has any questions, don’t hesitate to call.”

“I’ll make sure she takes some time off. Stubborn as she is.”

“I heard that.” Sam commented

A male nurse wheeled her up to Rae. The hospital provided her with blue scrubs and she was wearing a pair of white sneakers.

“Gina bring you your sneakers?” Rae asked

“Yeah. And a couple of other things.”

She held up a ‘Rutgers University’ drawstring bag that looked filled. Alexandra handed release papers to Sam and she signed them. Rae started wheeling her out to Phil who was waiting by the open door.

“Hello Ms. Price. How are you feeling?” Phil asked

“Hey Phil, please call me Sam. And I’m a little sore, but I’ll live.” Sam replied

“That’s good to hear Sam.”

Rae helped Sam in; Phil put his hand on Rae’s shoulder.

“I smell magic nearby.” He whispered

She took out her phone and showed him Sam’s address.

“I know there are a few other routes to her apartment. Find the fastest one and avoid where the scent is coming from.”

He nodded and they got into the car. She slid in next to Sam who was on her phone.

“Everything okay?” She asked

“Yeah; there’s traffic so we’re taking the backway to your house.” Rae replied

“Okay.”

The car pulled away from the hospital and they sat in silence. Sam would look over at her friend and then out the window. She had a lot of questions on her mind about Saturday night, but she didn’t want to sound like one of the media vultures.

“Rae…” Sam paused

“What’s up?” Rae replied

“You looked different that night. Are you feeling okay?”

“I’m fine. My nerves were really running on high that night. That’s all.”

“Alright; I know you’d tell me if something was wrong.”

“You know I would.”

After making that statement, her stomach clenched. She never lied to Sam in all the time they’ve known each other. Sam knew about her powers. If she told her the truth about her past life, would she believe her? Or think she was slowing losing her mind? Plus she didn’t want her getting mixed up in a war that hopefully she and the rest of the coven could end.

Tires screeched so loudly, they covered their ears.

“Stay here. I’m going to see what’s going on.” Rae said

She got out of the car; Phil also got out to see Brie and Alison standing in the middle of the street. Using her powers, she locked the doors and windows, so Sam couldn’t see out. Phil came up beside her, in wolf form.

“Go Rae; get your friend out of here.” Phil said

“No. Stay with her and don’t let them get anywhere near her.” Rae snapped back; “What the hell do you two want?”

“You and those demons dead.” Brie replied

“Let this serve as a warning. We’re everywhere and will be watching.” Alison continued

They disappeared, Rae turned to get back into the car, Phil morphed back into his human form and the doors unlocked. As she got back into the car, Sam looked concerned.

“What the hell was that all about?” She asked

“It’s a long story.” Rae replied

She hoped Sam would drop the subject.

“Humor me…because I know something is up.”

The car began moving and Rae stared out the window.

“You have to promise me you won’t tell anyone. Not even Gina and especially the media.” She said

“I promise. Now start explaining.”

She let out a sigh and then looked at her friend.

“The nightmares I had been having, about a battle between vampires and witches. It really happened nearly fifty years ago. There was a couple named Armand and Catherine who came here with their daughter Charlotte from London. A war had broken out because Catherine married Armand who was mortal. On the night of their last battle, someone killed them. Before she died, Charlotte made a wish upon an ancient crystal for her reincarnation to come back and end this war. I’m a reincarnated vampire princess.” Rae explained

Sam sat back trying to process everything. She tried to keep her jaw from dropping, but gradually she started to compose herself.

“I thought vampires only existed in novels and movies. Is Sebastian one of them? And where does he fit in all this?”

“Sebastian was Charlotte’s husband.”

“Shit Rae. This is incredible. Is there anything else I should know?”

“On a full moon, I become immortal for one night. By dawn I change back, that’s how I caught you after the explosion.”

“Who started it? Because the police were saying it was faulty wiring.”

“A couple of witches also known as Hunters. The attacks have gotten worse since I met the coven.”

“So what just happened before?”

“Two Hunters showed up giving me a warning it’s really starting to piss me off.”

“Oh my god Rae.”

She leaned in and hugged her friend tightly.

“You’re not angry?” Rae asked

“No. I was concerned about how you looked on Saturday. But now that you told me, it makes sense.”

“At least now, I have someone else to talk to about it. With all these attacks, I asked to have someone posted at your apartment until further notice.”

“That’s fine. Thanks for the bodyguard. One more question, does Phil know?”

“Phil is a werewolf. He’s been with the coven for a long time.”

“Oh wow… now I’ve heard it all.”

Rae offered her a smile as they pulled up front of her apartment. Phil opened the door, offering his hand. Sam took it as he helped her out of the car.

“Thank you Phil.” Sam said

“You’re welcome Sam. I hope you feel better.”

“Thanks.”

“I won’t be long.” Rae said

Phil smiled as Sam handed Rae her keys. She unlocked the door and they walked inside. Mailboxes lined the wall on the right while the elevators stood across from them. Slowly they walked up, Rae pressed the ‘Up’ button and the door opened.

“Are you going to manage for the next few days?” Rae asked

“I’ll be fine. Doctor gave me my medication and don’t worry I’m taking the week off.” Sam replied

“Good because if you tried I would have sent you home.”

Sam smiled as the elevator stopped on her floor. They slowly walked down the blue hallway with wood laminate floor. White cylinder shaped lights lined both walls was they stopped in front of ‘3 C’. Rae unlocked the door and walked into the neutral toned living room. A large brown leather coach leaned against the north off-white wall; with a 60” television hanging across from it. They walked into her bedroom. A queen size bed, covered with gold sheets and white comforter stood next to the door with a brown night table with gold lamp sitting on the left. Across from it was brown dresser with three large drawers and television hanging above it.

Sam sat down on her bed and slipped her sneakers off. Rae put her bag on her bed.

“Thank you.” Sam said

“It’s no problem. Someone should be outside your building at sunset.” Rae replied

They hugged and Rae left. As she came outside, Phil was leaning against his car talking to a man, looking to be in his late twenties. He was sitting in a white 1970 ‘Dodge Challenger’ with short black hair that was spike up. His eyes were the color of a pine tree and his once olive complexion was pale.

“Rae, this is Clint; he will be guarding Sam.” Phil began

“It’s nice to meet you Rae.” Clint said

He extended his hand, Rae took it and they shook hands.

“Same here; I would go and introduce yourself at least she’ll put a name to a face.” Rae replied

“Alright. I’ll wait until it’s less bright outside.”

Rae took her phone out and texted Sam.

“What should I watch out for besides Hunters?” Clint asked

“Paparazzi… any reporters or photographers… Sam knows you’re coming.” Rae continued

“Alright; what’s her apartment number?”

“3C; thank you again for doing this.”

“It’s not a problem.”

She turned to Phil, “I guess I’ll head back to Sebastian’s.”

Phil nodded, but stopped hearing his phone ring. He picked up and then hung up.

“That was Sebastian; he asked to meet him at surprise location.” He interrupted

Rae looked down at her clothes. Was she underdressed? She shook it off and then got into the car, Phil followed.

“Could you tell me where I’m meeting him?” She asked

The partition lowered and she saw his eyes in the rearview mirror.

“No; he made me swear not to tell you.” He replied

She sighed leaning back and started to think. The car stopped and she didn’t even feel it. She opened the car door and they were outside her studio. “What is he planning?” she thought to herself as she got out of the car and walked inside. The lights were on and she looked around.

“Sebastian?” She called

He came out from her office holding a red rose in his hand. She sighed in relief seeing him wearing a black thermal shirt, jeans, and black biker boots.

“What’s going on?” She asked

“Come into the studio area and I’ll show you.” He replied

He took her hand into his and led her into the large room. In the center was a folding table filled with brand new lenses, carrying case, and black neck strap. She saw a card leaning against the larger lenses and picked it up.

A ‘Congratulations’ card slid out of the white envelope. She opened it reading messages from Sam and Gina.

“This was a nice surprise.” She commented

“I’m going to try not to sound like a cheesy game show host. Wait there’s more…” He said

“Not bad… not bad…”

He took a bow and then picked up a large thin rectangular shaped box with a red ribbon wrapped around it. She levitated it in the air and slid the ribbon off, letting it fall to the floor. Lifting the lid off, she took out a long brown leather trench coat.

“Sebastian this is beautiful. Thank you.” She whispered

She hugged him tightly and kissed his lips gently.

“Try it on…”

He held the coat for her, as she slipped her arms through the sleeves. She turned around.

“It fits you perfectly.” He commented

She nodded and slipped her hands into the pockets. Her mouth suddenly went dry, heart started pounding. A small black velvet box appeared in her hand, tears formed in her eyes. He took the box and opened it. She took out a white gold necklace with two hearts intertwined. Her heart stopped pounding, but a tear ran down her cheek.

“It’s gorgeous…”

He took it out of the box; she lifted her hair and felt him put the necklace on. She looked down at it, sparkling in the dim light.

“I’m glad you like it.” He whispered

“I love it…”
