Dead Kittens -- A Poem

Dead Kittens, A Poem

Is there anything sadder than a kitten that’s dead?

Its eyes bulging out of its little dead head?

Its coat matted down with dark blood that is drying

Its face all contorted – no peace for the dying

It’s bad enough when a mean old cat croaks

But kittens, they’re special, don’t you think folks?

When you see a dead kitten you might start to cry

Demand explanation “Why, God, oh why?”

Oh Nooooooooo!

Death by hanging! What a way to go!
Death by hanging! What a way to go!

Like God’s gonna answer -- He cares not a whit

Please pardon my French, but God don’t give a shit

It’s the circle of life, Nature at her most callous

She’s just doing her job, folks, it's not out of malice

Still dead kittens are disturbing, there’s simply no doubt

Their poor little futures cut short and snuffed out

Whether shot or run over, neck broken or drowned

When a kitten gets dead you don't wanna be around!

Like puppies and bunnies and Bambi before them

When we think of dead kittens we can't help but mourn them

I hope you've enjoyed this twisted little ditty

Here's wishing long life to both you your kitties!

Great, but what about all those orphan kitties?

I dunno, that Pitbull looks sneaky

      Voted up!

This reminds me of a song that a local band used to play called "Dead Puppies." Everyone loved it!

      It went something like this:

Dead puppies in the middle of the road,

Dead puppies, beside a squashed toad....

IDK but man did this flash me back to those days!

It's always sad to see any animals (or even humans!) dead, though....

Ha, not surprised, really advisor4qb!! Perhaps I can find that song on YouTube. I did find a band called Dead Cat Bounce and they have a song called Pile of Kittens.

And it sounds just like a screaming pile of kittens, too!

I thought about the Dead Puppies song also. It used to play on the Dr. Demento show quite often. I probably just dated my self, but no matter. It was done by a guy by the name of Edgar Odsell, or Ogden Edsell or some caserole of letters like that.

Dead kittens... What a wonderful way to end my work day.

Wow, Mighty Mom. What a beauty. With the line, "Its eyes bulging out of its little dead head" you announced you're in it to win it.

And as if your poem isn't enough, you serve it up with outstanding graphics, no less.

"Every time you feed a troll, God kills a kitten????" Oh, GREAT! NOW you tell me!!

Nice job, Mighty Mom (grrr). This contest of Stan's is turning out to be a real barn burner, isn't it?

"Whether shot or run over, neck broken or drowned..." That's the best line in any poem in all of history. Wordsworth, Eliot, Coleridge... they got nothing on that line alone. This was a fun, fun read and, I have to say, from Stan's list on that contest, kittens are really taking a beating LOLOL. Just goes to show what a perverse lot HP writers are.

Mighty Mom, that's a controversial topic you've taken on. I know people who would seriously harm a dead cat hater. Nice poem though. It rhymed too. I thought you had a really bad case of writer's block, but apparently there's a contest I was not aware of. So, it turns out, this was quite an enlightening hub as well as entertaining. Thanks.

LOL kimh039. It is a controversial topic for sure. Certainly not one I would have ever picked (I LOVE cats!). But of the available topics in Stan Fletcher's contest, this one seemed like an easy one to start with!

I have been feeling a bit uninspired on the hub front recently, tho. I attended Hub Camp a couple of weeks ago and haven't even finished the hub I started there! Too much time in the forums:-).

      thanks for visiting, friend!

Oh do, please do! You MUST write one! It is soooo much fun!

Which do you think is sadder, dead puppies or dead kittens? I think kittens because they are more vulnerable!

    • profile image

      DoorMattnomore 6 years ago

Yes, I agree, kittens. I am not really sure why, they are both small, fuzzy, cute and babies. But Something about kittens....maybe because I dont have to clean up their poop? (I mean, before they die)

DoorMattnomore. You are evil too! I love it!

I've given this some thought. I think the little high-pitched "mewing" sound kittens make adds to their adorableness and vulnerability. And their ability to jump straight up in the air and sideways. Oh -- and purrs that are 100x louder than you could ever expect coming out of those little fuzzy bodies (before they are dead bodies, of course). LOL.

Oh, I was never fooled. Not for an instant.

I would get you a kitten for Christmas, but I'm not sure the ASPCA would approve. All they'd have to do is track your activity here and you'd be blacklisted as a kitten hater for sure. LOL!

Serious, I want a new kitten, too. Our "baby" is now 2 and the biggest cat in the house!

Love this. There are three things I hate in no particular order: cats, snuggies, and the color pink. A co-worker has been on me to get me to like her brain damaged cat...long story, and I just might write about it. In the meantime, a dead kitty poem will tide me over. :-). Hello?

As one of the three judges of this here competition may I just say that I consider this Hub to be a likely candidate for first prize? A candidate, mind you, not a cert.

May I also casually mention that we have formed a new charity, coincidentally called “The Three Judges Charity” and any contribution you may care to make to it shall be given the consideration it deserves?

Furthermore, I wish to give the lie to inaccurately spurious and dastardly rumours spread by a person who shall remain nameless (let’s call him Stan for argument’s sake) that we shall be happy with bribes of only chocolates and flowers? Naturally we live for literature and are doing this for the good of humanity, but any poor chump who thinks that he or she will have a chance in hell of winning this competition with a bunch of flowers, has another thing coming. ;-)

I am hereby writing a check in the amount of all my worldly Hub Pages goods -- that would be exactly $75.83 in Adsense earnings.

You did say "The Three Stooges Charity" didn't you?

Hi Tammy L. I can see you are a fellow cat lover. It's hard to bury a cat no matter how long you've had them in your life. They are just so loving. I did have one that only lasted a few days from when I got her from the pound. That was really sad. But not nearly as hard as putting down our beloved Penny at 18 (renal failure).

Kitty Heaven or Over the Rainbow Bridge -- I know (believe) we will reconnect with our babies after we die.
