Don't Need A Man

Updated on September 23, 2011
Source

I clearly don't need a man

I can mow my own lawn

reset the breakers

relight the pilot

make my own wage

raise my children solo

shuffle calendar days

and still find time to play

happily dance unchaperoned

purchase my own lingerie

dine with a girlfriend

take in a movie alone

"so why survey the room

why bother with perfume

what's playing in your brain

this mischievous grin, you must explain"

though Miss Independence I pretend

this complication arises

the one little snag that does me in

I'm adoringly addicted to men

      Interesting isn't it , this addiction to the opposite sex . I've always thought I could live without a woman if ,just if , it wern't for all the little things that I love , the curves , the way they tuck their hair behind an ear, the delicacy of their hands, neck and heart shaped faces, tiny little ankles and toes , ........oh hell Randy you know all this already ! !......:-}

You write beautiful poetry, you read your poetry beautifully, AND you can relight a pilot light!!! Glad I stopped by.

I hope they never come up with a patch or ten step program to treat this addiction to an emotional touch.;)

It's true, there is a difference between "need" and "want". You know the difference!

Gloria Steinem is attributed to saying, "A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle."

Still, a fish might want a bicycle, no?

A glorious truth for most of us. I'd be lost without my wife, as without her I'd have no one to tell me what was doing wrong. Sir Galahad could be around the next corner, so stay scrubbed up, just in case.

Thank you mckbirdbks, yep I got skilz.

I agree MA, this is one addiction I'm happy to keep.

      Its a strange truth Cardisa.

The wants are the fun ones HM!

My kids sing a song about fish riding bicycles, but I had forgotten that cute saying Tom.

Hi Katharella. I like running my own house for sure.

Poetic I'm sure the feeling is mutual for many of us.

Hi AH. Scrubbed up is a nice show of appreciation.

Randy, I kept avoiding reading this hub because I soooo wrongly assumed it would be just another men-basher. Therefore I'm delighted to find it ISN'T, that instead it's a brilliant piece of word smithery every man should read and remember any time he's around a female.

To paraphrase Cardisa's comment: Can't live with 'em, can't shoot 'em, but I sure do ENJOY savoring a delicious piece of eye candy! ;D

    • ahorseback profile image

      ahorseback 5 years ago

      Maybe Cardisa is right , Maybe its as simple as that . After all the power of any pair of lovers boils down to who is ahead of the other in holding this power of love over the other. If I make it seem that I dont need her .....then I win ? If she says "I can do without you "then she wins.....? Either way , whatever way , we all need each other! There is no relationship more powerful than equal partners ...and knowing it! I must be careful I'm revealing secrets !....:-}

Jama, sitting here I can't figure out what I would ever bash. Then it dawned on me, bashers themselves! They are the one group of people that I have difficulty loving. The people that think they are better than other's for some reason or another be it religion, politics, race, height, shoe size... Those people seriously bug me. :D

@ ahorseback -The words power and love in the same sentence.... hmmm.

Well you may be miss independent when it comes to all those daily chores and just plain out living, but like Palmer sang " I'm addicted to Love" me thinks you are right when you say your addicted to men:-))) I've always loved the scent of a woman, however I to can live on my own and do most anything a woman can do but deliver babies, YIKES-OUCH-The pain of it all, I know I suck.

But when it comes to having fun and going out dancing and dining, I would sooner be in the company of a woman any time. They make me tingle all over and the close of the evenings are always most adventurous. That's when the power starts and the lights get turned off and the candles lit and the fire flickers in the fireplace while the music is turned down low and closeness settles in over our hearts, minds and souls.

Yes, a delicious combination when the relationship between a man and a woman is based on **respect** for one another's strengths and weaknesses.

Vintage Randy here. Every line is crucial and every word is a weapon. I really like the italicized little number right before the end; it felt like a chorus, asking timeless questions. Fun, poignant, interesting. Good stuff.

      Hi Randy.

I just love reading your poems and as a newby to your hubpage they have certainly given me an awakening.

But what i like is that most of you ladies love most of us men, although some girls as you say need a gaggle of us.

Me, i just love all those things that you have and i don't have.

Take Care and don't over do things there's always tomorrow.

      LOL Ghaelach

      Come on Randy You know the reality of power and love in the relationship ! All the shrinks say so! Not that I'm a power freak or believe in it! ......:-}I love the way you write. Its powerful....lol:-}

Greetings! Viva la difference, right Ghaelach? Thanks for reading me and nice to meet you.

Yes ahorseback power often comes into play in a relationship. I just don't think power has any place in a healthy relationship, unless its place is in the bedroom.

Such fun. We live the lives of many in the facade of living one. The independent woman, the single solo mom, the handy woman about the house they all need the sun. So, with words and looks, sly grins and plaintive thoughts, what we think we can live without is actually for naught.

Happy is the journey that is shared with one we love, sometimes the one we love is 'me', so the journey is solo. But lucky for us you share a part of you and we are not alone, we relish in your wordsmithing and feel like were coming home!

Not sure but fast enough that a rider not paying attention could easily get impaled by a poorly trimmed apple tree!
