EARTHBOUND
"Earthbound" - Rodney Crowell
By: Wayne Brown
Distant stars and planets cast their nightly light
Signaling, ever present, in the darkened night
I long to touch the far reaches of that universe
Earth holds me firmly back, Gravity is my curse
Shooting stars streak etchings on the night sky
Asteroids and comets on their way go passing by
Water vapor and dust form planet’s perfect rings
Gravity welds me in place; I cannot touch these things
The Milky Way with clusters of starry, milky light
Shows across the universe; lighting a darkened night
Highlighting the constellations hung in stars on the sky
Gravity holds me to the ground, I cannot yet fly
Light years in the distance yet seemingly so close by
The Heavens open up above revealing God’s night sky
The sanctity of space, the spatial relevance we embrace
Gravity keeps me earthbound, solidly in place
The Sun, the Moon, the stellar array, arranged on the dark
The sheer beauty in full display surely God’s remark
Placed on a night canvas suspended in the solitude of space
Unable to reach and touch it, Gravity keeps me in place
Humanity is but a speck to the Universe’s nightly glow
Staring at the sky entranced in Heaven’s awesome show
Imagination takes over control and lifts me through the night
Gravity’s chains are broken; my mind leaps forth in flight
