So she hires Luke Cage and Iron Fist to handle all of the dirty work they don't have time for. The Heroes for Hire are more than game to help out, but when the dirty work consists of unclogging Helicarrier reactors and delivering a child, they get kind of sick of it. What's even worse is that Eileen didn't have the cash to pay them, escalating the situation to a more violent one. Hands of the Mandarin
Miguel O’Hara got off of a plane in the John F. Kennedy International Airport. He walked over to the information desk.
“Excuse me,” he said, gaining the woman’s attention. “May I have a map please?”
“Sure.” The lady said, handing him one. Miguel sat down and sighed as he scanned over the map.
“I can’t believe it,” He said to himself. “New York is the first place I went! I’m going in shocking circles. If they’re not here, I swear, I’m going to find that James kid and rip him a new one.” He paused. “Bingo!” He took out a red pen, circled Grand Central Station on the map, and left the airport.

“Chimichanga Strip Party!!!!!!” Acacia screamed, running through the empty halls of E.G.G Base. Eileen walked into the Inner Shell with James.
“No one’s throwing a party Acacia.” She said. “Or eating chimichangas… or taking off their clothes.”
“Aw, but why not?” Acacia complained. “The base is empty! By the way, why is it empty?”
“Remember, I gave everyone weekends off.” Eileen said.
“Which means you and me can have some alone time!” James said, tickling her.
“Stop it James!” Eileen laughed, shooing him away. “We don’t even get to leave yet. I have mountain of extra work I need to take care of.”
“Yep, work that I don’t have to do!” Josh said, coming out of his room with two suitcases.
“Where are you going?” Acacia asked.
“China.” Josh said. “Just following up on a lead I had Jocasta look into a while ago. I’ll be back before Monday.”
“Um, you can’t use the E.G.G Jet for recreational purposes!” Eileen called.
“Don’t get your panties in a bunch, I’m flying commercial.” Josh said as he got into the elevator.
“Okay then, well travel safe!” Eileen said.
“Yep. Oh, wait!” Josh caught the elevator and rushed out.
“Forget something?” Acacia asked. Josh ran into the Hall of Egg, and moments later emerged twirling a bracelet.
“Just my Joshinator 5.0 armor!” He replied. “I haven’t properly named it yet but…”
“It’s inside the bracelet!” Acacia exclaimed, snatching it from him and examining it.
“Hey! No, it’s not inside.” Josh said, taking it back. “And this bracelet is called the Signal. I worked out the range issues in the armor, I’m bringing the Signal in case I need to call it to me.”
“Oh,” Acacia said. “Well then, that’s way less cool.”
“I don’t care what you think!” Josh said, putting it on and leaving E.G.G Base.
“Speaking of which, I gotta go finish my regulators!” Acacia exclaimed, rushing towards the Humpty Dumpty Hall.
“You gotta clear out when I lock up!” Eileen called, but in vain. She smiled and shook her head. “You gonna wait for me hon?”
“Yeah, just gotta put finishing touches on my secret project.” James replied.
“Can I finally see it then?” Eileen excitedly asked.
“Eh, we’ll see.” James said, kissing her and heading off towards his secret room. Eileen sighed.
“He’s so dreamy.” She said, walking to her room.

Josh was sitting on a plane as it soared through the sky. He had lost track of how long it had been, and this was the second plane he had boarded. He was sitting by the window, staring out at the clouds. A man sitting next to him slowly dozed off and fell onto Josh’s shoulder. Josh looked, then pushed the man’s head off of his shoulder with his finger. Seconds later, the man fell back on Josh’s shoulder. Josh sighed.
“Are we there yet?” He mumbled to himself. The flight attendant approached him.
“Would you like a drink?” She asked.
“Apple juice, on the rocks.” Josh replied. The attendant smiled and left. Josh grabbed a magazine that had Iron Man on the cover and began to read it. The attendant returned with his apple juice.
“Thank you.” Josh looked at her name tag. “Jenny.” She smiled and walked off as Josh took a sip. He sat it on the tray and finished reading. He then dropped the magazine and leaned back in his seat. He shifted uncomfortably. The man snored and jerked.
“Okay.” Josh said, standing up and squeezing out of his seat. He walked down the aisle to the bathroom and arrived at the same time as a Chinese woman. “Oh, you first.” He said.
“Nǐ xiān zǒu ba.” The woman replied. Josh raised his eyebrows.
“Um, sorry, I don’t speak the language.” He said. He pointed to the bathroom door. “You… go… first.”
“Zǒuliǎo, wǒ huì děngzhe nǐ.” The woman replied, pointing to the door. Josh sighed.
“You.” He said, pointing to her. “Go in there.” He said pointing to the bathroom. “Me,” He pointed to himself. “Stay here.” He pointed to the ground.
“Nǐ zǒuliǎo, wǒ huì děngdài.” The woman said, pointing to Josh.
“We’re never gonna settle this, are we?” Josh said. Suddenly all of the television screens on the plane went fuzzy. In seconds, a symbol appeared. A symbol Josh had seen before. “No way…” He said. On every screen were ten small circles, each with a different Chinese symbol in it, forming one large circle, and two swords crossed in the middle. A few seconds later, a man, shrouded in shadow, appeared on the screen.
“Mr. Westbrook.” A deep, spine chilling voice announced. “You were warned to cease your investigation into my affairs, but you failed to comply. Now you will suffer the consequences.” The screens went blank. Everyone looked around and murmured in confusion. Josh stared, horrified.
“How did he…” He began, when suddenly the plane jolted. Everyone screamed, flight attendants fell to the ground. The buckle seat belt sign came on as the plane jolted again. Josh and the woman fell to the ground. Suddenly there was an explosion. Josh looked outside to see one of the turbines on fire.
“Oh no…” he said. The plane shook again. Then the wing broke off. Everyone screamed in panic. The woman attempted to get up but Josh held her down.
“Stay down!” He ordered, as she screamed. He tapped the Signal and the light turned blue. “Come on, come on, come on….” The plane began to nosedive. Just then the other wing on the plane exploded and blew off. The plane began to spin. Josh held on to the woman tight as she continued to scream.
“Just hang on!” He shouted. The plane then began to split in half. The back half Josh was in twisted and began to spiral down as the front half caught fire and continued to beeline for the ground.
“AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!” Josh and the woman screamed simultaneously. Suddenly the force of the wind ripped a door off behind them and they both tumbled back into the cargo hold. The tail end of the plane spun and spun, smoking as it went.
“HANG ON!!!!!” Josh repeated, as both halves of the plane crashed into the ground.

Miguel sat impatiently on a subway as it sped through the tunnels.
“Come on… come on…” He said. “Ugh, why does everything in this time period move so slow?” The train came to a halt.
“Grand Central Station.” The announcer said.
“At shocking last!” Miguel exclaimed, jumping off of the train.

Meanwhile, in his secret room, James was typing into a control panel in front of a giant metal ring in the center of the room.
“Alert.” Jocasta’s voice called. “Threat identity: O’hara, Miguel, detected based on provided physical description.”
“Show me.” James said. A holographic screen opened up in front of him where he saw Miguel getting off of the train. “Finally.” James said. He pressed a few more buttons, and his project began to power up.

Josh slowly opened his eyes. He sat up and felt the sun in his face. He heard birds and water, and saw trees overhead.
“Well…” He said, slowly pulling himself to his feet. “I don’t have to use bathroom anymore.” He crawled out of the tail end of the plane and looked to see the front half, entirely engulfed in flame. “Oh no!” He exclaimed. He rushed over to the wreckage.
“Hello?” He called. “If anyone can hear me, say something! Anything!” There was no response. He looked around, but all he saw was twisted metal and charred corpses. “This… This is a massacre…” He felt something under his foot. He bent down and picked up a small object. He dusted the soot aside to see it was a nametag that read Jenny. “They all died…” Josh said solemnly. Suddenly he heard a moan. He quickly looked up.
“Hello!” He called, looking around. “Where are you?” He heard it again, and looked to see it was coming from the tail. “That’s right! The girl!” He rushed over and pulled some luggage out of the way to find the girl, badly bruised and bleeding, but alive. “Hey, are you okay? Can you stand?”
“Ooohhh…” She moaned, as Josh helped her to her feet.
“Easy, easy, easy…” He said. She looked over the wreckage.
“Suǒyǒu de rén...” She said, pointing.
“Come on,” Josh said, taking her arm. “We’ve gotta try and find civilization. There’s nothing left here.” He led the woman away from the wreckage and into the jungle.

James walked into the Humpty Dumpty Hall where Acacia was tinkering with two devices. She looked up at him.
“Hey James,” she said. “What’s up?”
“Nothing…” James said, picking up a small circular gadget. “Hey, this is a force field generator, right?”
“Yep.” Acacia said. “The Lockout. Just passed preliminaries. Stick it in any hall or entryway and no one’s gettin’ through until you take it down. Or if they find another way around it…”
“Neat.” He said, pocketing it. “Hey, this door is fire proof, right?”
“It has to be!” Acacia laughed. “Have you seen how many things blow up in here?”
“Just checking.” He said. He walked out of the room and closed the door. Acacia looked over.
“James?” She asked. Suddenly she heard multiple clangs. “James? What’s going on?” On the other end of the door, James violently slammed the handle until it broke off. He dusted his hands and walked off. He suddenly heard a loud bang, stopped, shrugged, and kept moving. Acacia pulled on the door, but it wouldn’t open.
“Hey! Why’d you lock me in!” Acacia shouted. She pulled and pulled. “Open the door! Gah!” She stepped back, formed a fireball, and hurled it at the door, only for it to hit and fade into the air. “Right, probably why he asked if it was fire proof…” She looked around. “Oh man, I’ve got to warn Eileen!”
Down the hall Eileen was lying in her bed going through paper work. Suddenly her phone began to buzz.
“Hm?” She said, looking towards it. She reached out and grabbed it when James’s hand suddenly grabbed hers. “Oh!” She looked up and James smiled. “James! You scared me.”
“Sorry hon.” He said, kissing her and slowly scooting her phone away. Eileen smiled.
“What was that for?” She asked.
“That was for being the most beautiful woman on the planet.” James replied. “And this…” He said, as he kissed her again. “Is because I love you so much.”
“Did you say love Mr. Collins?” Eileen said, running her fingers through his hair. He grabbed her hand into his.
“I did.” He answered.
“Love is strong word.”
“I know. And I want you to know I know. I want to show you that I am completely committed to this relationship, because you deserve no less.”
“James, you’re making me blush.” Eileen said, laying her head on his shoulder. He stroked her hair.
“I just want you to remember this moment.” He said. “Just you and me, nothing else, no one else. I love you Eileen.”
“I love you too.” Eileen said. James kissed her head then stood up.
“Goodbye Eileen.” He said, exiting the room.
“Where you goin’?” She asked. James just smiled and closed the door. “Sweetie?” Suddenly she heard a strange sound. She got up and opened the door to find a force field in her way and James strapping on his armor. “James, what’s going on?” She asked. “Why is there a force field in front of my door, why are you suiting up?”
“Remember the moment Eileen.” James said as he put his helmet on. “I hope we cross paths again one day.”
“James? James!” Eileen shouted after him. James simply walked down the hall, not looking back. “JAMES!!!!” He kept walking, then suddenly he heard the bang again. He subsequently ignored it, and kept on his mission.

Josh was standing on a rock, holding up his compass. He pointed up to a smoke trail in the sky.
“We got hit back there.” He said to the girl, as she watched him. “But I saw the turbine get hit from the front. Thing is, there’s no sign of a missile or AA anywhere. Our best bet would be to keep heading east though.” He looked at the woman. “You get any of that?”
“Wǒ bù zhīdào nǐ gāngcái shuō shénme.” She answered.
“Right.” Josh replied, hoping off of the rock. “We could make some serious headway if I had my stupid armor! It should be here by now…” He smacked the Signal a few times. “Is this thing busted?” He sighed and leaned against a tree. “Okay, so, no reception in the jungle, no E.G.G tech, no armor, no connection to Jocasta,” He looked at the woman. “And a girl that knows no English. Just my luck.”
“Nǐ zài shuō nǐ zìjǐ?” The woman asked. Josh sighed.
“Okay, we need to make some form of progress.” He put his hands on his chest. “My name is Josh.” He said. The woman looked at him in confusion. “Ugh, okay, me! ME!” He said, tapping his chest. “J…o…sh… Me Josh!” The woman pointed at him.
“J…o…sh…” She repeated. Josh nodded excitedly.
“Yes, yes, that’s it!” He exclaimed, bouncing up and down. “Okay, now, who are you?” He asked, pointing to her. “What is your name?”
“M… me?” She pronounced. Josh nodded.
“Yes, you,” he said pointing. “Me Josh, you…”
“I… name… Lee Mei.” She replied, putting her hands on her chest.
“Lee Mei! Great, see? We’re practically friends already!” Josh happily replied. Lee Mei smiled.
“Nǐ hěn yǒuqù.” She said.
“Aaaaand, back to square one.” Josh sighed. “Well, at least I know your name now.” He looked east. “Come on, whatever hit us had to come from over there, which probably means there’s some form of civilization. Even if it is a military base…” He began walking then turned to see Lee Mei standing there staring at him. “Ugh.” He said, as he walked back, grabbed her hand, and led her deeper into the jungle.

The elevator in E.G.G Base dinged and Spider-Man 2099 emerged, pulling on his glove.
“I have no idea how some heroes change in elevators, there’s not nearly enough…” He looked up to see E.G.G Base deserted. “…time.” He looked around desperately. “No, no, no, no! Not again! They have to be here! This is the only shocking place they could be!!!!” He suddenly heard the loud bang then jumped, but saw nothing. “Aaarrraaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!” He smashed the main terminal with both fists. “Where on Earth are you!!!!!! Are you! Are you! Are you!” His voice echoed through the empty halls. Miguel fell to his knees, utterly defeated.
“They aren’t here.” Spider-Man 2099 slowly looked up to see James come around the corner. “But I am. And you, Spider-Man, are under arrest.” Spider-Man 2099 stood up and angrily pointed at James.
“You! This is your fault! You broke the Xtractor, put me weeks off course! I ran in shocking circles trying to find E.G.G and you’ve been here the whole time!”
“It was only a matter of time before you finally caught up to me.” James said, taking out his laser sword. “Now, surrender, or I’ll use force.” Spider-Man 2099 clenched his fists.
“I’m gonna rip your SHOCKING HEAD OFF!!!!!” He yelled, leaping at James. James readied his fighting stance.
“At last,” He said. “This hunt comes to an end.”

Josh and Lee Mei were walking through the jungle, carefully stepping over vines and around trees.
“Then there’s Acacia.” Josh said, continuing a conversation. “She’s kind of silly. Actually, she’s really silly. Oh, and because she was subject to some Skrull experiments, she has fire powers, she can make force fields, oh, and she can turn invisible. She doesn’t do it often but…” He looked at Lee Mei. “Are you even listening to me?”
“Bǎi wàn fēn zhī yī de shíjiān, wǒ bù míngbái nǐ.” She complained.
“I’ll take that as a yes.” Josh said. Suddenly he stepped off of a cliff. “Whoa!”
“Ahh!” Lee Mei shouted, as she caught his arm and pulled him back.
“Thanks.” Josh said. “You saved my life.” He looked down. “Oh wow, that’s a sheer drop, and there’s no way to the other end…” He then spotted a vine hanging from a tree. “Unless we do it Spidey style!” He grabbed the vine and tugged it a bit. “Nice and sturdy!” He turned to Lee Mei. “Come on, we’re gonna swing across!” He wrapped his arm around her waist.
“Méiyǒu!” She shouted, jumping back.
“Oh come on,” Josh said. “It’s not that far, just a little swing! I promise you won’t fall.” He reached out for her again and she smacked his hand away. “Ow!”
“Wǒ shuō méiyǒu!” She shouted.
“What’s your problem?!” Josh asked.
“Wǒ yǒu yīgè háizi!” She exclaimed.
“Yīng'ér.” She said slowly, rubbing her stomach.
“You’re hungry?” Josh asked, putting his hand to his mouth like he was holding a fork. Lee Mei shook her head.
“Yīng'ér…” She said slower, cupping her hands around her stomach. Josh paused.
“Wait a minute… A baby! Like, rock a bye baby…” He sang, as he moved his arms like he was rocking a baby.
“Shì.” Lee Mei answered, nodding her head.
“So you’re pregnant?” Josh blew heavily into the air. “Ooookay… okay, okay, this can’t get any worse. Um, the baby, uh… Yīng'ér. How far along are you?” She cocked her head in confusion. Josh pointed to her stomach.
“Yīng'ér.” He said, holding up one finger. “One?” He held up two. “Two?” He put up three fingers. “Three?”
“Sān.” She said, holding up three fingers. Josh sighed.
“Three months pregnant, great.” He said. “Because things weren’t sucky enough.”

James took off on his jet pack and opened fire on Spider-Man 2099. Spider-Man 2099 skipped left and right, avoiding James’s onslaught. He leapt into the air and scratched James across the mask with his talons.
“Ah!” James shouted, activating his flame thrower and firing it. Spider-Man 2099 back flipped to avoid it then webbed James, snagging his chest. He forcefully pulled him out of the air and slammed him onto the ground, damaging his jet pack so badly sparks began to spew out. James tossed it aside and took out his laser sword. He swung at Spider-Man 2099, who ducked under it and kicked James in the back of the leg. James fell in pain as Spider-Man 2099 grabbed him by the legs.
“I’m gonna rip you to pieces Collins!” He shouted when all of a sudden they both heard the bang again. Spider-Man 2099 quickly looked, and James took advantage of the distraction, elbowing him in the face. Spider-Man 2099 backed up, holding his face, as James charged and continued the assault.
Meanwhile, in the Humpty Dumpty Hall, Acacia was slamming her body against the door.
“Come on!” She shouted. “Why won’t this shell shocking door open!” She stopped and backed up, wiping the hair out of her face. “Okay Acacia, think for a minute. There has to be something I can use…” She began to shuffle through a bin full of half-finished experiments. “No… No… No… Aha!” She pulled out a backpack with a hose attached to it. “The Adamelter! Guaranteed to melt through any metal on Earth! Including Adamantium!” She looked around. “I gotta stop talking to myself.” She pulled the trigger and sprayed an orange liquid on the door, melting it. She ran down the hall, up the stairs and over to Eileen’s room, where she found the force field in front of it.
“Are you kidding me?” She said, spraying the Lockout. “What is James doing?” She kicked the door in and Eileen stood up quickly.
“Acacia!” She exclaimed, hugging her. She stepped back. “What is this?”
“The Adamelter.” Acacia said. “Can it really melt through Adamantium?”
“No,” Eileen replied.
“Then why did we call it the… never mind.” Acacia said. “James locked me in the Humpty Dumpty Hall!”
“He locked me in here!” Eileen exclaimed. “Oh, when I get my hands around his neck, he’s gonna wish it was him locked in the room!”
“…Okay, so which part of that sentence was not intended to be sexual?” Acacia asked. Eileen just looked at her. “I’m just asking!” Suddenly they both heard the loud bang shrieked.
“What the shell was that?” Acacia asked.
“I don’t know.” Eileen said, making her way down the stairs. “Let’s just find James and beat him until he gives me a really good explanation as to why he…” Suddenly Spider-Man 2099 slammed against the wall, causing the girls to jump back. James rushed up and rammed his shoulder into his gut. Spider-Man 2099 flipped James into the air then jumped after him.
“Well, I found James.” Acacia said.

Josh and Lee Mei were walking along the breach, when Josh sighed.
“This thing seriously goes on forever!” He shouted. “It would have been so much easier to just go across! I mean, I know you’re pregnant and all, but honestly, a little swing on a vine couldn’t hurt…” Lee Mei simply looked back him. “Right, you can’t understand a word I’m saying.”
“Kàn! Yīgè dìfāng, wǒmen kěyǐ xiūxíle.” Lee Mei replied, pointing to a small grassy clearing with a waterfall emptying into a small pond.
“Oh, finally, a way around!” Josh began to walk across while Lee Mei sat in the grass. Josh stopped and looked back at her. “What are you doing? Come on!”
“Lái, zuò xià.” Lee Mei replied, pointing in front of her. Josh looked up at the darkening sky and sighed.
“I guess it is getting late. We can rest for the night.” Josh sat down in the grass as Lee Mei got comfortable and drifted to sleep. Josh looked at her and sighed. “You didn’t ask for any of this. You were just coming home, huh? Maybe going to see your husband? And I dragged you into a plane crash.” Josh exhaled. “Who? Who could have brought that plane down? Why do all that just to get me? All those people…” He slowly into the grass and turned to go to sleep.

Eileen and Acacia rushed into the Feeding Pen to see James and Spider-Man 2099 in full swing. Spider-Man 2099 punched James, then James kicked him in the leg, grabbed his arm, and slid him across a table. Spider-Man 2099 flipped off of the table and kicked it at James. The table slammed into him and he hit the door to the Hall of Egg.
“James, Miguel, stop it!” Eileen shouted. But they didn’t even pretend to hear her. Eileen rolled her eyes. “Acacia, shut them down!”
“You got it!” Acacia replied, trapping both of them in separate force fields. “You boys ready to act like men?” Both James and Spider-Man 2099 tapped their wrists at the same time, then shattered Acacia’s force fields and went right back at it. “No way!” Acacia cried. Eileen inhaled deeply.
“That’s it.” She said. Her hands lit up and she began to approach the two. James slammed Spider-Man 2099 against the Hall of Egg and began choking him. Spider-Man 2099 tried to pull James off, but he wouldn’t let up. Then they all heard the bang again, and realized it was coming from the Hall of Egg. Thinking fast, Spider-Man 2099 mustered what little breath he could.
“Hall of Egg… override protocol…” He choked. “117… password… apple pie…” Just then the massive Hall of Egg door opened and Spider-Man 2099 fell back. James looked up to see Josh’s Joshinator 5.0 backpack zoom forward and slam into him.
“Ah!” He shouted, as the armor, finally free, blasted off. It broke through the roof and out of the floor of Grand Central Station, deserted because it was so early in the morning. It broke out of the window and began to make its way to China. Acacia whistled.
“That’s gonna be some paperwork.” She said. Spider-Man 2099 kicked James, who rolled onto the tracks. Spider-Man 2099 lunged at him and was about to strike when James launched a wire from his arm and wrapped him in it. Spider-Man 2099 struggled to escape, but James clicked his heels and took off on a pair of rocket boots towards his secret room, dragging Spider-Man 2099 along for the ride.
“James!” Eileen called as the two disappeared into the room. Eileen growled under her breath. “He is so sleeping on the couch tonight! Come on Acacia!” The girls rushed into the room after James and Spider-Man 2099.

Josh and Lee Mei were sleeping when Josh heard a rustle in the bushes. He sat up and peeked to see men with guns walking through the trees. He quickly got down and shook Lee Mei.
“Lee Mei…” He whispered. “Lee Mei, wake up…” She slowly opened her eyes.
“Nǐ zài zuò shénme Josh?” She asked, but Josh quickly covered her mouth.
“Shh…” He said, pointing to the soldiers. Lee Mei gasped and began to scoot back.
“Why are we even out here?” One of the men asked. “The plane went down. No one could have survived.”
“The Mandarin just likes to be thorough.” The other replied. Josh froze.
“The Mandarin…” He whispered.
“Whatever man, I’m cold.” The other guy said.
“Listen, we’re almost done with our route, we’ll be back at the palace in half an hour. Now let’s go.” The two men unwittingly walked by Josh and Lee Mei, who had concealed themselves in the bushes.
“Alright, come on Lee Mei.” Josh said, standing up.
“Wǒmen yào qù nǎlǐ?” She asked, as Josh grabbed her arm.
“We’re gonna follow those guys.” He said, pointing the soldiers. “They’ll lead us to civilization, and to the Mandarin.”
“Mandarin…” Lee Mei repeated fearfully.
“Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.” He said, as the two began to follow the men. “I promise.”

Eileen and Acacia rushed into James’s secret room to see him throw Spider-Man 2099 in the corner, who was still trapped in the wire, and walk over to the control panel.
“James!” Eileen called. James looked back.
“Jocasta, detain those two please.” He said. Suddenly a force field generated around Eileen and Acacia, trapping them inside.
“Well this isn’t ironic at all.” Acacia said. “Jocasta, drop the field.”
“I am sorry; I only take orders from James.” Jocasta replied.
“What the shell? You hacked Jocasta!” Acacia shouted. Eileen blasted the force field multiple times with her energy blasts, but nothing happened.
“James Collins, you tell me what’s going on right now or so help me, I will…”
“Eileen!” James interrupted. “Shut up.”
“Excuse me!?!?” She shouted.
“Sorry, not shut up, just, be quiet while I calibrate this please.”
“Collins, you maniac!” Spider-Mann 2099 shouted. “You’ve recreated Sloan’s time portal!”
“Had to get us back to 2099 somehow.” He said, typing into the terminal.
“What does he mean ‘back to’?” Acacia asked. Eileen squinted.
“James…” She said. He kept typing. “James, honey, look at me.” He sighed, and turned around.
“Yes, what is it Eileen.” He said.
“That’s where you’re from, isn’t it?” She asked. James looked at the ground. “You’re from the future.”
“Yeah, I am. Now please, stop talking. You’re only making this harder.”
“Harder on who James? Harder on me!” Eileen shouted. “What, you don’t think it would have been hard on me to break out of the room you locked me in and never see you again? With no clue where you went! You don’t think that would’ve been hard on me!”
“No Eileen!” James shouted, grabbing his head. “Not you, I mean you’re making this harder on me!” Eileen paused.
“What do you…”
“The sight of you, your voice, even the way you shocking smell! All of it is making me want to turn off this time portal and stay here. It’s because of you that I don’t want to go back.”
“Then stay.” Eileen said. “You don’t have to go.” James sighed.
“I’m sorry, but I do.” James pressed a button and the portal lit up brighter. He grabbed Spider-Man 2099.
“Come on Collins! All this for a shocking bounty!” Spider-Man 2099 shouted.
“This is about so much more than a stupid bounty!” James defended. “But I don’t expect you to understand.”
“I may not, but you need to understand this! You have to let me go! I need to change the future!”
“Shut up and move it!” James said, shoving him through the portal.
“James!” Eileen shouted. “Please, don’t leave me!”
“Eileen, I have to go.” He said.
“Collins!” Acacia shouted. “You step through that portal you’ll be no better than Osborn!”
“That’s not true.” He said. “Because unlike him, I’m doing this for Eileen, not myself.”
“How is this helping me?” Eileen shouted. “You’re breaking my heart!”
“You may not see it now, but you will.” James began to walk towards the portal.
“Agent Collins!” Eileen screamed, tears in her eyes. He looked back. “As Director of E.G.G, I order you to shut that portal down now!”
“Sorry Director,” James said. “But I quit.” He stepped into the portal, and the force field around Eileen and Acacia dropped.
“NOOOOOO!!!!!” Eileen screamed, running for the portal only for it to close. She stopped. She stood in front of the giant metal ring in the center of the room. “James…” She looked at the control panel. “We can get him back!” She cried, rushing over and tapping buttons. “I just have to find the right time, calibrate it to an anchor point, of course I’ve got to stabilize the chronic field, but I should be able to…” Acacia put her hand on Eileen’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry Eileen.” Eileen shook and slowly fell to the floor.
“How could he just…” She mumbled. Acacia sighed and sat next to her.
“Look, I know how you feel.” Acacia said. “When Harry left…”
“Don’t compare me to you!” Eileen growled, her voice sounding as if it were two in one.
