A Look at ego and its close friend, self-complacency

Ignorance chewed, at the spirit of Love,

Day turned to night and Light into sorrows,

Clouds unveiled cobwebs, from high up above.

The way now a path, crawling with shadows.

Daggers were swung, at fair justice’s scale,

Scorpio did sting and her scorpion prevailed.

Greed became deaf, to the nightingale’s wail,

Weaving its gold, across valleys and vale.

Much weeping arose, to drown the oppressed,

Hades Lord danced, through a river of tears.

Insufficient to dowse, or to redress,

The flames of complacency, shaped by fears.

Tasting the smugness of arrogance-might,

Deceit and division, skirted the Light.

O boundless One, love of power replace,

With the power of Love to see Thy face.

Conquering ego

"When you do well, you feel that you are the doer; you try to take the credit. But you have to feel that if you are the doer ...to know that some other force is operating in and through you. That force is the Force of the Supreme. So who should get the credit when you do something perfect? The Supreme Himself." - Sri Chinmoy.

Conquering ego

"Thoughts can only bind you, no matter how good they are. So you have to go far beyond the domain of thoughts. You have to enter into the world of willpower, where you really create and become one with the Divine Will."- Sri Chinmoy.

"The best thing is to offer anything that you do, good or bad, to the Supreme and to feel that it is He who is operating in and through you, according to your achievement and according to your present stage of consciousness." - Sri Chinmoy.

Greed, divison, power ...

Do you feel that they contribute to society's ails?

This is such an excellent poem about the Ego, and has so much depth to it. You are so right that all honor should go to The Higher Power because it is through His Force that all Good Things happen. This is a very rich, and brilliant, poem!

I'm on a daily path to conquer my own ego. I even talk to myself to re-direct my thinking and overpower my ego. ITKEEPS POPPING UP at unexpected times. But I will forever practice leaving my ego in a place where I can't find it.

      Love and peace...

      Yes Dee.

Not that I am special, but sometimes I say that I talk only about Love. Right from the beginning of my journey here 7 years ago. So meaningful to me!

In Germany. God bless you all this weekend.

I'd adopt the last two lines of your poem as a regular part of my prayer. So meaningful! And I am always inspired by your Sri Chinmoy quotes. Thanks!

      Ruby,

You may struggle with the ego, true, like some of us. But you show wonderful insights on the spiritual life. A huge plus. God bless your sincere Heart.

      Thanks Marlene.

Knowing or having insight is very helpful for us. As such the ego will be transformed by Grace through inner growth. So many of us are in similar boats. Much Love.

Excellent message, as Sri Chinmoy says it best in the quotes you have shared with us. I must admit that one of my great struggles is keeping my ego in check. I know that nothing I do is my doing. Yet, I must constantly remember from where I get any talent or ability to accomplish anything on earth.

      Thanks Eric,

I'm not blameless here. I say this to Bill and I say it to others. My poem does not address anyone per se, and the last two lines is an entreaty to the Divine.

I am a servant ... a God-lover with beginner's mind, addressing the varying moods of the human psyche.

Well done. I just am not convinced of our common treatment of the ego. It seems a wash in contradiction. If I speak knowingly about ego - it is probably just my ego talking.

Though sometimes I get overwhelmed by ego, I try to immediately correct myself by crediting all my plus points to the Supreme Being.

It is a nice and worthy message through your beautiful poetry.

Snap! As they say, we are in the same boat. Let us strive, you and me, through His Grace ... watch and pray. Loving thoughts, Bro.

Do we ever fully conquer ego? I certainly haven't. It's a struggle, I suppose, which will last a lifetime. At the very least I'm aware of the necessary struggle.

      Peace always
