Expectation - a Poem

Updated on August 10, 2013

A writer without any words

Creates a story nobody has ever heard

Expecting nothing: as his voice is without any sound

An artist without any paint

Creates a painting with his mind

Expecting nothing: as his mind is clouded

A knight without a sword

Fights his battle alone

Expecting nothing: as like a boxer, he is too scared to fight

A sailor sails over treacherous seas

In search of treasure

Expecting nothing: as the treasure map is still undiscovered

An insecure girl

Searches for a best friend

Expecting nothing: as we are made to think it’s a pretty person’s world

I can’t be a poet, so I’ll be the poem

Like a lantern without any light

The sky without the sun

A dreamer of someone else’s dreams

Waiting to be awoken!!

The hardest question to probably ask someone is "Who are you?" It's a question without any right or wrong answer. You may go through life just trying to find an answer to such a question, for a writer, its like trying to write a story but knowing no one is going to listen/read it. I guess this poem reflect my thoughts on how I struggle to come to terms with whom I am....Its a working process with no due date. So until I find a suitable response to give to you...I tell you solemnly "I am me"...Thank you all for taking time out to read my poem and look forward to reading your comments about this poem :)

Awesome and this is comment on your summary. We pass a lifetime looking for ourselves. We put big power into things which we think that are not good and we are trying to change them. Much better is to change ourselves over again. Man who is suitable for changing can lead a good life!

I like this! Your summary is very interesting; I think we all struggle to come to terms with our own identity. I know that over the years I "forgot" who I was. I had a life-changing event that brought me to meet someone new: myself! It has been almost 2 years since that event that seemed so devastating at the time, but resulted in this amazing journey of self-discovery. Thank you for sharing some of yourself with us!

I love this. It is very original and thought provoking. It almost seems easier to go through life without expectations because then there is no chance of being let down.

" I can't be a poet, so I'll be the poem", that is absolutely beautiful. Voted you up. Amazing choice of topics. Expectations usually lead to let downs and resentment.

      richbrayan,

Very well written, and I enjoyed reading it.

However,I never think it is best to expect nothing,if you really do, that is too negative for me. I expect everything to develope in a positive way.
