Experience: The Greatest Teacher
By: Juliet Stewart Austin
Time and again you fail
empty promises leave a trail...
tears flow, from eyes now dried
empty of emotions.
A heart no longer beats beneath layers of lies
choked off, by empty promises, too many to account.
As time and again you fail to deliver,
on promises made.
Your lies they do not phase me, nor do they control me
My heart no longer beats in rhythm
to the sweet song of betrayal,
encased by Lies, covered up by deceit, covered up still by layers
My smile now genuine, will never break
Never the heartache will I again,
as life takes and takes what I used to freely give.
I am an apt student, and I have learned,
to give of myself, but not a lot, to take but ever so reluctantly.
That you see has been my lifelong lesson, so do not worry
I shall falter not, beneath this tough exterior lies a heart
covered up by lies, deceit, and layers of indifference.
