FLIGHTS OF FANCY
CXXXIV.
Sometimes fate chigger-bites
And times life differently.
So no need for worst case
To by-pass disappointment.
Welcoming whatever IS
Works just as well.
It's what must be.
How intriguing to see
What fate will do.
Had hope not risked it
Never be known
What's known now,
The joy, the thrill of loving.
Finding ultimate,
At least, deferment.

Imagination falters,
Waiting for reality.
Love that's sensed
But never felt
Assumes a form
Requiring less
~ Encounter.
Mere fantasy
Invalidates release
From it.
So then invades
Real imagery once more.
Perhaps reality
Comes formless,
Yet more real.

How good it is
To be free inside
Compared to what
It's been.

Distance
Varies, tarries
Stretches far.
But melts
Where hearts meet
In between
A distance
Frozen
Out of time.

You are, essentially,
Candle-glow
And moonlight flow
On balmy sea.
Whatever errant wind
Flickers your flame,
Fragments your beam
Attempting to
Intrude and de-create
The essence of you
Is merely momentary.
Life resumes
Its glow, its flow
As though uninterrupted.
This is clear through eyes
Half-blind to all but Life,
The only eyes I have.

Part of loving you
Was, from the first,
A bondless bond.
Never need to think
"Is it enough?"
Or "Will it last?"
Yet perhaps, at times,
Too much
Interminably.
But what it is, - is.
Cannot be made so
Nor can it be made - not.
It abides.
It always warms my soul.
