Fear of Nothing but Fear

Updated on August 24, 2013
Mysterious sounds on a dark night can frighten you when you are alone.
Mysterious sounds on a dark night can frighten you when you are alone.

When shadows fall upon the ground,

And buildings' shapes are clear

Yet others seem distorted, if they are too near,

Do you begin to fear?

There's beauty in the darkness,

With shadows making shapes,

Until you think you hear a sound....

that makes you jump and turn around...

Alone you are,

There's no-one there,

But inside you are shaken.

A forest can be like a maze..... Where can you run to?
A forest can be like a maze..... Where can you run to?

If far from buildings you may be,

When trees and shrubs are your company.

And wind is whistling through the trees

And you hear voices come from these,

Softly in the swaying leaves a voice is talking,

Calling you..."Over here...." ...."Come this way..."...

It even calls your name.

Is someone playing a sick game?

Your nervousness is rising., Your heart is pumping fast,

Seeing blowing of the wind......

The trees have no control...

You are alone.

There's no-one there.

Yet, you hear voices

Floating o'er the air....

Nightime with a moon shining can be beautiful.
Nightime with a moon shining can be beautiful.

If your situation is inside your house,

The darknes and the shadows........

You need not let them own you,

Put on lights and music,

The shadows won't control you.

Until you hear a far off creak

Like footsteps on the stairs,

Your body freezes at the thought

Of someone walking up the stairs,

Is it real? Your music blares....

Turn it down and listen.....

You hear the footsteps, the creaking boards,

Are doors locked? Did you remember?

Alone again........ There's no-one there....

Yet you stand frozen as you stare

At doors and windows, you hope you locked,

What will happen if you forgot?

Even with the lights on, sounds can cause you fear.!!
Even with the lights on, sounds can cause you fear.!!

Fear can hold you prisoner

Imagination wild,

All the ghosts and monsters

From when you were a child,

They haunt you now..........

But do not let them.!

They were not real!

They are not now!

The breeze is real, the shadows too,

But they will bring no harm to you,

Natures' beauty may have fooled you,

Only if you let it.!

Say you won't allow the darkness to engulf you,

There's nothing in the dark that wasn't in the light,

Embrace the moon and stars and all of earths delights,

When early morning sunrise

erases all the fright.

You can hold your head high, forget about the night,

Though come again it will.......

The shadows and the dark,

And only you can love or hate

The changes nature brings,

Choose to love it all!!!

The wind and rain, The dark and light,

The rivers and the oceans,

The mountains and the snow,

The sunshine of the Summer

That brings your cheeks aglow.

For life is short.

Be the best you can.

You needn't be an "also ran...."

This little guy has no worries.
This little guy has no worries.

Great job! I have not only read your poem but copied it as well because I want to read it one more time, bravo.

My mother told me once that there is not such a feeling like fear, it's something our mind has somewhere in it already and we get to feel fear about unknown places, strange events or unseen entities when our body feels something different in the environment. For instance, when we sit in a dark room for hours, we feel terrified it's because we are not used to sitting in such a place..

Our imagined 'things that go bump in the night' can be so frightening we're almost glued to the spot, unable even to run. Yet with God on our side we can put them all aside and 'forget about the night.' Life is too short. Lovely poem.

It seems to be the norm, fearing what goes 'bump' in the night. Loved your poems, as I could relate to them all! Voted it up! : )

What a well written poem, I enjoyed how each stanza brings the reader into the fear, yet the last stanza explains the power of overcoming fear. Well done, congratulations. Jamie

Very nice poem, reflecting different kinds of fear, many of us humans feel from time to time. The Fear, in fact is in the mind and the psyche. As a child, I used to have some of them, especially I hated dark rooms.

Lovely composition, very well done with nice pictures! Voted up!

How wonderful a thread you weaved throughout this magnificent write my dear poet. You took us through the fears that so many of us have from time to time. Somehow the darkness of the night that surrounds us, will penetrate our souls and shed the fear upon us. I have very little fear during daylight hours, but bring on the night and this poet's soul is tested time and time again, yet it's best that I write in the darkness of my chamber, for from it comes the melancholy that I pen. The lightness of day closes my soul and like a vampire I must take flight and to my rest, until the night falls once more upon me. I tweeted and shared your beautiful words my dear poet, bravo I applaud this scribe.

    Oh, my goodness, Dim!

What a powerful and thought-provoking piece here! I just love it, and I must say I have been there and done that for sure!

I remember walking through the woods as a child as a short-cut home from school and each little twig that snapped or breeze that blew the rustling leaves of the trees, gave me pause!

And back when my husband worked nights when my children were small, I would hear each little creak in the house and get up and turn on all the lights and check every closet and such, but alas nothing there.

Now, I can sleep in sweet peace and without fear, for we can choose to allow fear to grip our lives or not and, for me, just placing my full faith and trust in Him, helps that wonderful peace to just rain down on me.

Love all of your photos and imagery here, very lovely as well as to add much drama! Loved this creative piece here.

    Voted up ++++ and sharing

    Have a lovely weekend.

Hugs and love your way, Faith Reaper

"There's nothing in the dark that wasn't in the light"....I love that line and so very true. Fear can be controlled; for some it is oh so difficult, but it can indeed be controlled and even, dare I say, embraced.

    Well done my friend.
