The Beatles Cartoon "Paperback Writer"
Reading between the lines…
I discovered a paperback novel.
Detecting an adventure,
I put on my protected, poetical, pondering cap.
I welcome you along as a writer and a friend.
First stop:
Graphitti, da Vinci, The Pope and Sir Paul McCartney-
Simon and Garfunkel’s Sounds of Silence-
“Written on these subway walls”
What more I thought should we see:
Vermeer, Vivaldi, the maid Bansky made?
Oh my, what have we discovered
buried between these lines?
Other worlds?
Plots, characters and settings?
Mysteries like no other?
Quickly! Before it dries
Dip your brush in the water
Watch your feelings
“fade to black”
Trace carefully
Sign post ahead
Clue revealed
“Riddle me” something to decode.
Hold On! Wait!
Yonder,
I see it…
Thereupon, I shalt seize it…
if only it were that easy
Seizing makes you seizy
Too much blood on too many hands
Smearing the meanings between too many lands
How many kingdoms have been won
by “Motley Crews” sitting around
slothing, singing, drinking, writing sonnets
that’s stood the test of time?
Plenty you say?
Yea! Yea! I hear and all ye have to say.
Each crew member cruising his own way:
Didst thou think thou wit wittier than all the rest?
Have no breath left
Smothering
Searching to escape
Heavy velvet curtains
Draping over quest
Cover these empty lines
Keep the secrets that they hold
Without falling down the proverbial Rabbit Hole
Where there are multi-dimensions
We’ve yet to explore
Perhaps a place where
Golden rules rule and everyone cares
Breathing, blooming hearts
Kindred ships, lovers and friends
Writers and wordsmiths
Writing and writing
Over and over again
Doing what we can’t resist
Compelled to do it all the time
Filling in the blank pages
Reading between the lines
It's a thousand pages, give or take a few,
I'll be writing more in a week or two.
I can make it longer if you like the style,
