Find Your Strongest Life: What the Happiest and Most Successful Women Do Differently - Marcus Buckingham
I have a confession to make,up until the day I got my hands on his latest book : Find Your Strongest Life: What the Happiest and Most Successful Women Do Differently I had never heard of Marcus Buckingham.
The book title had me rolling my eyes.I mean what could a man tell me about women's happiness and success?Seriously. The book cover didn't help either.Don't get me wrong,Marcus Buckingham is one good looking man with a dazzling smiling but he looks like he belongs in a cheesy soap opera and not on a panel advising women on how to find fulfillment in their lives.
I'm glad to report I was wrong on both counts.Turns out this Marcus Buckingham dude is more than just a pretty face and he does know his stuff.A few pages into Find Your Strongest Life: What the Happiest and Most Successful Women Do Differently,I found myself screaming...yes I can relate to that and that and that and that too and I never put the book down once except to take the test to determine my roles.
The only draw back for me was the fact that the book is full of statistics because Marcus Buckingham is a statistician and naturally he uses statistics to explain situations. Now,I'm not a numbers kind of girl but lucky me,Marcus breaks down the statistics into "regular language" carefully and clearly explaining what each figure means.Other than that, the book is flawless and well researched. Its filled with examples of real women and how they found a healthy balance and fulfillment in their lives. The book is presented in such a clear and concise way,you wont help but feel like giving Mr.Buckingham a stand ovation once you get to the last page.
ps:Turns out I am an advisor (lead role) and a motivator (support role) and according to Marcus' test,I'd be more satisfied in a career that paid me to be opinionated...hmm and to think I was once extremely offended when my college newspaper editor wrote on my staff review sheet "she's too opinionated".Had I listened to her instead of being offended,I'd probably have my own nationally syndicated Op Ed column right about now!
