Finding A Haven
Rain drops pelt down
hammering on my old iron roof
The wintry wind
blows with a fast fury
screaming blasphemous curses
as it whistles through the stubborn bent branches
of an ancient Gum tree
outside my window
Dark grey angry clouds
congregate like conspiring hags
planning to obliterate the moon’s right
to shine its reflected light
onto the loving earth below
Lightning strikes with vengeance
through hostile clouds
and windy rain
with no regard
for any life or earthly element
An electrifying bolt
burns a hole in the wet earth
like a gunpowder wound on a soldiers skin
searing slowly without mercy
Where can I run -
from all this tempestuous turmoil?
Dare I hide -
from nature’s manic outburst?
Will the rain water not seep
into the earth’s crust
and flow until it finds me
in time wherever I may be?
And what of the wind?
Will it not blow here and there
Far and wide
with spiteful force
and lift me from the shadows
from whence I hide?
The lightening will surely strike me down
and make certain my death
whereupon
the rain shall wash my corpse
and the wind in time
will bury me for eternity
deep in the Earth’s womb
under darkness of clouds
When my worldly form has perished
my spirit shall forever roam the ether
free from any slings of false hope
and promised love unfulfilled
free from heavenly assaults
and all kinds of suffering
Then only shall once more
the face of the moon
be in full view
and no longer obscured
In that safe haven
I have procured.
