Fire and Water chapter6

Updated on May 11, 2011

Blake followed the funnel of desert sand that spun wildly in front of the car. He could hear Dee Dee's voice as he stomped the gas pedal all the way down to the floor. He jumped when he felt Ally's hand touch his arm. He looked over at her with fear set in his glance.

"Blake, I know it is hard to understand but I know what I saw. She was pale and I could see the fear in her eyes. She did not want to take me and..."

"Ally!!!" Blake's voice was stern in a way Ally had never heard before. She wasn't sure how to react to it. She decided to simply listen. "I know what you say you saw!  I also know that Megan was dead when last I saw her. her insides were burned out and she was taken away by the coroner. Did she just walk off the autopsy table and go to meet Leon?"

"I do not know the answer to that, Blake, but I do know the woman in this picture is the woman that took me. I will not say it again. I am done!"

Blake looked at her and he felt his attitude soften. "I know you are not lieing, sweetheart. I just need to know how this happened. I am praying that Leon is leading us to my daughters. As long as I can continue to hear Dee Dee, I know she is alive."

The darkness that swallowed the desert made it hard to see at times. Blake noticed the funnel was spewing loose sand at the car. It also appeared to be losing momentum. He nearly ran directly into the funnel before he began to slow down the car. Blake knew this meant that Dee Dee was weakening.

"We have to find them soon, Ally. I think they may both be in trouble. There is a large Dune coming up in front of us. I don't see Leon's tail-lights anymore. He must have driven around to the other side of the dune. I am going to shut off the head-lights so he doesn't see us coming."

As soon as the head-lights were shut off, the desert seemed to explode in a raging fire. The fire appeared to be coming directly at Blake's car. He could see the trail of searing heat cross the desert sand. The light from the fire lit up everything around them. For only a second, Blake swore he saw Megan standing beside the dune. He grabbed Ally by her arm and pulled her from the car.

"Run, Ally, as fast as you can. The car is going to explode when the flames reach it. Get as far away as you can."

"Blake, don't let go of me, please!"

Suddenly, there was a huge explosion. Blake and Ally were tossed to the ground. Chunks of metal were strewn out on the sand. The heat from the hot metal reached Blake and scorched the hairs from his arms. He crawled to where Ally was laying and covered her body with his. The water seeped from his pours, cooling both of their bodies. He lifted his head slowly and looked behind him. He was certain now that he could see Megan standing next to Leon. He and Ally stood and faced Leon and Megan. He looked at Megan and began to cry.

"How? Tell me how you could be alive? Why didn't you come to us. We needed you, Megan. I mourned your death. Our girls cried for so long, missing you. I don't understand this insanity!"

Megan walked to Blake, She touched his cheek with her fingertips. Tears ran down her face when she spoke. Softly, her voice so soft and faint, Blake could barely hear her. "My Blake, I had no control over this. Leon was going to kill our girls. He doesn't want our money. He wants our gifts. He learned to absorb the gifts of those he kills. I am already dead to this world. Only by his powers am I even standing in front of you."

"Amazing, isn't it Blake. The mind can do things we have not even touched yet. Well, I have touched more than you. By tyhe way, the police would love to find you. They think you stole her body from the morgue. How intriguing is that? She wasn't quite dead when they took her away. I made certain of that. I needed a second body to do what I had to do. She is wrong about one thing though... I Do want your money. The truth is, I am the personification of the "Sinner" and you, are the Saint."

"Who are you. If we are going to die, then what harm in telling us!?!?"

"I agree, but first things first." With those words spoken, Leon reached out and grabbed Megan. Laying his palm on her chest, he pushed his hand hard against her. Flames shot out of his hand and burned a whole in her blouse. Blake screamed out her name while Ally simply screamed. Blake heard Megan call out before she was consumes in flames.

"I love you forever, Blake. Save our children." Her tears baked into her face, etched deeply by the heat.

"No-o-o-o-o-o-o-o, Megan, run! Let her go, you filth creature! I will kill you!!"

In a calm voice, Leon spoke. "You will do, nothing! She is dead and so will you be, soon." A flame burst from Leon's other palm and hit Blake directly in the chest. The force was so hard, it knocked him to the ground. Ally fell to the ground beside him. She scooped his head off the sand and held him to her breast. Her tears were the only thing soaking his body. "I know you want to kill me, but I am in control now, Blake. Since I have your attention, I will answer your question. Megan's aunt, was my mother. There is no record of my birth because I was born at home. She wanted no one to know of my birth. The man they would call my father was an elemental, just like you and I. When I was born, I burned the sheets in my crib. Mother knew I was "different" and did not want to keep me. I hated her for that, and so, when I was strong enough, I killed her. After that, well, you know the story. My life has been spent learning all about us "freaks of nature." Too bad you didn't do the same. You might be killing me instead of me... killing you."

Leon stretched out his hand and let Megan's scorched body fall to the ground. Blake sobbed as he watched her fall to the desert, tears forever burned into her cheeks. "Now, I have fire and earth and can kill you in so many different ways. I am going to let Allison watch you die and then I will watch her die."

"What makes you think we are going to let you do that?" The voice came from behind Leon. He turned quickly and found himself looking into the eyes of Margo. "Together, my sister and I possess All of the elements. Why don't we see what you can do to stop us from killing you."

Leon stretched out his arms and the flames burst from his hands. They were met by wind and water from Margo and Dee Dee. Blake stood and moved towards the girls. Leon turned one hand towards blake and began to burn the flesh from his chest. Ally stepped between Blake and Leon. The fire burned into her flesh.

Thank you for your words. I often wonder if my "short stories" are too long for the readers. Thank you for giving me a little courage to take a story one step further now and then. I am working on the next chapter. As you know, I don;t even know myself if this is the end or not. Thank you again so much for the encouraging words. Always, Darrel

This just keeps getting better with each chapter. When you think you might know what will happen it changes. Hope to read more then just 1 more chapter.
