Fire on the Horizon
"There is nothing worth having that can be obtained by nuclear war- nothing material or idealogical- no tradition that it can defend. It is utterly self defeating."
-George Wald-
Fields afire
Burning on the horizon
Mushroom clouds
Atomic hypnotizing
Claiming it ordered of God
The President, Queen, and Pope
Pushed all the glowing buttons
Children’s eyes empty of hope
Ashes to ashes
Dust for dinner
Gray snow fallout
Over the saint and the sinner
Wearing mitres, crowns, and ties
They clung to their ignorant alliance
Denying love, peace, and nature
They killed my world with defiance
Tucked in their tunnels
They still plot, brother against brother
Murdering over the last seeds
They wrenched from their dead Mother
While a band of survivors
Walk a cooling Earth sighing
They give her the only chance
By saying goodbye, crying
So they bar the path
Of the destroyers who hate
By using bricks from Cathedrals
To block the devil’s gate
The ones with such great potential
But instead invented a Hell
Buried by their own creation
Forever in darkness to dwell.
