Dark Poetry: Flipping Chapters

Updated on June 14, 2013

As I skim through this story,

Flipping through chapters,

I wonder why I should complete it,

For in the end nothing really matters.

I've been writing it now,

For over 30 years,

The ending is so obvious,

Why should I care.

There are billions of stories out there,

Almost identical to mine,

So why find the words,

To write another line.

I'll just write two words,

And lay down my pen,

Set the book to the last page,

So people can read "The End".

Love this. It says everything about the writer's/writing life, doesn't it?

Every writer is unique. The world goes round and round:Much of what is said is the same, but that one certain writer can say it for a certain reader to relate to, enjoy and understand. You are amongst those unique writers whom that certain reader is looking to find. Keep writing. v/r

Hi PHILLYDREAMER--Impressed with your ability to maintain and extend the metaphor in a seemingly effortless manner. Although the tones are different, your poem reminds me a bit of a Mari Evans poem (called "Metaphor," I think) that begins, "Morning is a blank sheet of paper." Are you familiar with it?

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm still writing, but sometimes it's hard when you feel like you aren't accomplishing things.

Thank you Luis, I am enjoying myself over here so far. Please let me know if you have any tricks that can help a new user. I'm trying to re-establish myself on a new site as i had issues with the old site I wrote for. Everything looks so different I find I'm a little intimidated.
